I used to make my daughter's lunch because the school food was so bad. And so unbalanced. It was filled with hot dogs, hamburgers and pizza. To this day, she won't eat a hot dog. It's time to pull kiddies from school if possible.

This may sound weird, but I never had McD's until I was 13 and was taken to one by a friend's mom. My family cooked everything from scratch, not out necessity, but out of love for good food. Meal times were about gathering with family (sometimes extended or the neighbors too) and talking, eating, and enjoying. Not just filling your gut to relieve the hunger. Sure, we went out to dinner sometimes, but it was always to a good restaurant, not some fastfood place.

My parents even made their own tomato sauce every summer (about 50 mason jars worth) and canned vegetables, made jams and jellies, etc..

I also never had ramen, spaghtetti-o's, frozen chicken patties, or anything like that until I was in high school and ate them at various friends' homes.

Both my parents cook well and would have never dreamed of filling me or my sister with sugar, fat, and preservative laden crap.

And before anyone assumes anything, both my parents also worked. They just put more of a value on decent meals over their own rest and convenience.

I didn't like hot dogs when I was a kid. Then I started 4th grade in a new school and what did they have for lunch on the first day? Yup, hot dogs. So I dutifully ate my hot dog and went back to class and suddenly felt a little queasy, and.... BLEEEAAAGH! All over the class room floor. Hadn't thought about that in a while, thankfully.
