A Hitch in the Dixie Chicks' Git-Along
eonline ^ | June 8, 2006 | Natalie Finn

Despite the fact that the Dixie Chicks' Taking the Long Way has been the number-one album in the country for two weeks, the trio may be staring at wide open spaces when they take their show on the road this summer.

Billboard reported Wednesday that a handful of dates on the North American leg of the Dixie Chicks' upcoming Accidents & Accusations tour, which kicks of July 21 in Detroit, might be postponed or canceled due to slow ticket sales.

Ticket outlets were averaging 5,000-6,000 tickets sold per date in major markets, although most of the arena-sized venues can accommodate more than 15,000 people. So far, a September date at Memphis' FedEx Forum has been X-ed off the schedule and the fate of shows in Indianapolis, Houston and Oklahoma City are in jeopardy, according to Billboard. Shows in the band's home state, including Austin and Dallas, are moving ahead as scheduled.

A publicist for the band did not immediately comment on the potential cancellations, and no direct connection has been made between the lackluster ticket sales and any ire fans might still harbor toward the Chicks because of the, um, unpleasantness.

I don't think I could stand to watch Maines for an hour. She is an ugly woman - inside and out.

That pic of them I've seen lately makes me think that they left country music and checked into a plastic surgery clinic.

They sure went "pop" in a hurry, considering their "country roots".

WABC radio actually reporting that the Ditzy Chits are not selling concert tickets in the areas that did not appreciate their attacks on the President.

later in the eonline news items, the Experts had this analysis:

NOT READY TO MAKE NICE: Though the Dixie Chicks' Taking The Long Way has topped the charts for the last two weeks, tickets for their upcoming tour have been selling dismally, leading to speculation that much or all of the trek might be canceled or postponed. Our analysis: Bush supporters are okay with the secret shame of listening to the album in the privacy of their own homes, but unwilling to out themselves as fans by attending a concert.

They came out and said they didn't even "want" their country fans. They said, I quote, "we don't want fans who have us in a five-disc changer with Reba McIntyre and Toby Keith."

That's one thing I don't understand. The Ditzy Chicks' handler said that they didn't want their album in the same 6 CD changer with Toby Keith and Reba McIntyre. Okay, that's cool. Having said that, why the heck are their CDs in the country music section of department stores right next to Toby Keith and Reba McIntyre? I don't get it.

I understand that the real money in music comes from concerts, not record sales.

The last time I checked, Houston was still in Texas.

What's amazing to me is how musicians can just CHANGE their whole style for what reason--because some country fans didn't like the asinine comment about the President? Why would a musician just suddenly up and change their entire style?

Their hostility is really amusing, and frankly it makes me suspect their talent and dedication as artists. Imagine any great pop musician just up and CHANGING to country out of thin air, after years in their genre.

They come off sounding like diletantes who resented being put in the country section when they really wanted to be "mainstream" stars (though there's almost no such thing as one "mainstream"). I'm thinking back to how SOundscan came in and overnight people realized how popular country music actually was, and how rap was selling to white kids.

These idiots really should just shut up and sing and not be so concerned about stupid things like what other CDs their fans listen to; true artists don't care about such things.

Why do they advertise on Country Music Television? I thought THEY SAID they weren't actually 'country'. /sarcasm
