The father of a Maryland Marine who died in Iraq plans to sue an extremist group that picketed his son's funeral, his lawyer said Friday.
Albert Snyder of York, Pa., the father of Lance Cpl. Matthew A. Snyder of Westminster, will sue the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., for unspecified actual and punitive damages, according to attorney Sean Summers of York. The civil suit will claim defamation, invasion of privacy and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

I love this. A trend appears to be starting. We'll see what sort of "justice" they get in our courts, or whether this is the one realm in which jurors can't seem to find in favor of plaintiffs.

If this should ever happen to my son, and these loosers tried to picket any services, I'd be less likely to sue these people and more likely to take matters into my own hands and deal with them personally, one on one, mono e mono.
If possible, I'd like to see the father of this Marine win the grounds of the "church", and the homes of the individuals who participated.
From what I have read about this group, they make their living sueing people- some for assulting them. I think they want people to assult them so they can sue. I understand where you are coming from- but it might be better if the families would all sue them, maybe they would not have the travel money to go to the funerals to protest.
In a perfect world (at least my version) you could kick the daylights out of them, and those like them and nothing would happen to you, except perhaps a medal of some sort. Or a scenerio I like even better is to have people like that tried for treason and hung.

These bottom feeders demonstrated here in Athens GA this past weekend at the funeral of an Army Staff Sergeant. Our legislature passed a bill this year to severely limit funeral demonstrations but it doesnt go into effect until the start of the new Fiscal Year, July 1.
In any case, Rest in Peace American hero, you have earned it. And those from Westboro, go to hell.

One thing these unwashed, hairy legged anti-American scum that demonstrate are - is COWARDS.
They can dish it out - and are successful because decent people don't 1. act that way and
2. seldom fight back.
However, when they do, these rats scurry off down the gutters like the vermin they are. And, like rats, they will desert their own sinking ship. Like the school yard bully, one punch in the nose takes all the fight out of them.
It's time for us all, across the country, to do counter-demos wherever they show up.
It's really successful - show up , have load speakers to play "America", "Glad to Be An American" and sing along, smiling, etc, salute to flag - have MANY flags - smile a lot and ignore them. Don't engage them in conversation - it isn't like you are going to convince them of anything. If you engage them, it signals that you think they're important. Confrontation gives them power. Without it, they run or scurry real quick -in addition, the public catches on quick and let's you know they are with YOU...
1 or 2 times is all it takes for local groups.
The PINKo's and Sheehans are financed by socialist/communists groups. It may take a few more counter groups to tire them out - but if more military families start making themselves heard to , like this family, the tide can turn - enough noise from our side and the media will have to start covering it...
