I don't know about Korea. I was however a young adult during Viet Nam. And my recollection is the population was disconnected during it.
I been told that during the Korean war the kids where ask to do a newspaper drive. Not that it did much but I am sure it had some effect on the moral of the war effort at home.
I think this is a fantastic idea.
