White House Compares Illegal Immigration/Parking Ticket
Examiner.com ^ | May 26, 2006 | Bill Sammon

White House compares illegal immigration to speeding PDF | Email Bill Sammon, The Examiner May 26, 2006 5:13 PM (2 days ago) WASHINGTON - The White House on Friday said a Senate bill that would grant legal status to illegal immigrants is analogous to a traffic law that allows a speeder to pay a fine and continue driving.

"If you had a traffic ticket and you paid it, you're not forever a speeder, are you?" White House Press Secretary Tony Snow said in response to questions from The Examiner. "So the fact is, you have paid your debt to society," he added. "And we have come up with a way to make sure that the debt to society gets paid. Then you move forward." The "traffic ticket" analogy raised eyebrows on Capitol Hill, where many House Republicans regard illegal immigration as a grave crime. "I don't know if Tony meant to trivialize it or not," said Will Adams, spokesman for Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo. "But it's certainly misleading."

I hope I don't get covered in slime by the responses here, but basically, i agree with the White House on this one. I wouldn't have said "parking ticket". I would have said "bad check".

On bad check isn't really a big problem, and certainly not a national problem. 11 million is a different story. But it's not like 11 million murders, not like 11 million armed robberies, not like 11 million rapes, arsons, or kidnappings. More like 11 million parking tickets. Still bad, but not the worst thing happening in the country.

Robbing a nation of national security is far from a "parking ticket" !

That's all I will say today as I am honoring my Dad who died from wounds he suffered from a war and today on Memorial Day we honor those fallen soldiers that fought and died to PROTECT this great nation and to say invaders sneaking into this country is not a security risk is and is nothing more than a parking ticket is an insult!

Bad Check?

If you write a bad check for $1000 you get put in jail. If you knowingly write a bad check for $1000 it is a felony. So I guess it depends on how much the check was written for and whether you ever intended to pay as to whether it was a minor mistake or a felony.

If you use a fraudulent ID to secure a job, avoid paying taxes, and drive for years on without a license or insurance, you are a criminal.

What Tony forgot in his comparison to a speeding ticket, is the speeder was driving without a license. The police usually arrest these kind of people, but Tony thinks a fine is ok. How come when I start driving over the speed limit, I start talking in Spanish???

Sure, Tony, if we give them amnesty, then they are not violating the law. So what's your point?

I feel sorry for Tony. He won't last long--too much eating WH BS, and spitting it back out has to take its toll.

There are no rewards for a parking ticket! Paying a fine for illegally coming into this country and becoming a citizen allows you to partake in our social security system, all social services, and for illegals, free medical care-you are a privileged citizen.

Illegal immigration is nowhere near a speeding ticket - it is much closer to a home invasion, and frankly, our government ought to start treating it as such.

Let' just say Tony Snow
isn't going to get a medal
every time he steps to
the mic. It was a lousy
analogy.

The govt agencies responsible
for controlling illegal entry
into the nation have been shirking
their duty for over 2 decades by not
enforcing the laws. IMO, Bush
is paying the price of his
predecessors' lack of action.
So, now he has to try to set
things on track. This Senate
Immigration Bill goes way beyond
what Bush recommended in HIS
version of Amnesty (it's still
amnesty, regardless) re Guest
Workers. Let's face it, there's
a huge difference between illegals
who have lived/worked here for 5
years or more and illegals with
Mud/Sand still clinging to their
backs/feet. As for bringing in
their families...they abandoned
those folks years ago. If they
really want them in the States
with them, they'll have to line
up at the Gate Post with their
papers in hand...and do the
newest Great American Way
Phenomenon: Stand in Line at
the Check Out Counter!

More like 11 million parking tickets.

Can we agree that 11 million home invasions is more accurate?

Let’s go back to the W/H analogy- if you pay a speeding ticket, are you now allowed to drive that fast whenever you want?

Okay, Tony, let's consider this further.

Being in the country illegally -- compared to getting a parking ticket. And one pays the ticket.

BUT if one continues to park illegally -- or continuins living the country illegally -- what then?

Deportation.

It is the "entering the country" which is the crime, not parking/living here.

Perhaps Tony thinks that once you pay a parking ticket, that allows to park at that spot indefinitely, whenever you like -- without another parking ticket.

But it's not like 11 million murders, not like 11 million armed robberies, not like 11 million rapes, arsons, or kidnappings

Check the stats. Nearly 29% of the felons IN PRISON are illegals.

Check the stats. Numerous 3rd world diseases we thought we ended in this country decades ago are returning.

The governmental ignorance of the problems open borders are creating is inexcusable. The President (any president) takes an oath to defend The Constitution; that is the sovereignty of this Nation. The current administration has failed that. Much of the Senate has also. Then the politicians throw up their hands and say 'we can't do anything, because the problem is too big'.

Maybe that is a job American citizens need to take back and do, since most of the elected politicians won't do it.

I wouldn't have said "parking ticket".

And neither did "The White House." They used the terms traffic and speeder. What happens when you get stopped for a traffic offense?
1. You get asked for your license/identification.
2. You get asked for proof of insurance.
3. In many places you get asked for vehicle registration.

If you can't produce these you will probably lose your car at least temporarily and you have a good chance of going to jail. In the first place "The White House" doesn't seem interested in stopping or even slowing down these speeders much less identifying and punishing them. They want them to step forward voluntarily to receive their newly awarded benefits.

Your reference to a parking offense lacks some elements. This is more like someone hiding from the law who broke into a parking garage so as to hide their car. "The White House" seems to want to issue a parking ticket, forget all other crimes and grant citizenship plus additional benefits.

Don't feel too sorry for him. Tony has always been pro-illegals and anti- measure to quell the invasion. Tony was in lock-step with the Administration on this topic long before he became Press Sec.

Tony Snow and the Bush administraton support amnesty for millions of illegal aliens. Tony Snow will say almost anything to convince the American people that illegal aliens deserve to be rewarded with legal status and a path to citizenship.

Illegal entry into the Untied States is a federal crime. It is punishable by a fine and by jail time. I've never heard of anyone being convicted of a federal crime of speeding and spending time in jail or a federal prison for speeding.

All illegal aliens should voluntarily return home or be deported.
