PHNOM PENH (Reuters) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has banned 3G mobile phones after a complaint from his wife and her friends about receiving pornography on them.
"I have written to the Minister of Telecommunications to delay the use of certain mobile phones," Hun Sen told an assembly of Buddhist monks in Phnom Penh on Friday. "We can wait 10 more years until we have managed to improve morality in society."
Hun Sen, a one-eyed former Khmer Rouge soldier who has been in charge for the past 20 years, said his wife had signed a petition asking him to act against the phones, which can send video as well as still images.
Sexual violence and abuse are common in the war-scarred Southeast Asian nation.
Cambodia's first 3G (third-generation) mobile network opened earlier this year, but few people can afford the phones.
Next thing they will ban brains because they could be used to think about something evil.
ONly 10 years to improve morality - OK - Good luck!
Spoken like a true Communist. It's the people that try to enforce their version of 'morality' that really make me nervous. And they're not limited to 3rd world hellholes, either.
Hun Sen, a one-eyed former Khmer Rouge soldier who has been in charge for the past 20 years,...
Go figure.
Khmer Rouge - The most evil of the evil.
It's not a joke, brain scans can soon enough tell when anyone - kids or adults - are thinking "bad thoughts".
Future kids may never be free until age 18 or 21, strictly programmed by their parents and government... But not a person. Not what God or nature intended, but a complete insult to all humanity.

Let's just hope the American Family Association (AFA) and Concerned Women of America (CWA) don't here about this or we'll get a month of stories about how "conservaitves" want cell phones banned.
We're so screwed if it comes to that. I (like all people) am who I am because of thinking anything I want, including the most offensive, overreactive imaginable things possible.
Including violent, racist, sexist, evil, destructive thoughts. Everyone does it - at all ages, and all hours of the day. We have a right to think anything from conception until death, and no parent or government should ever see into our minds that way.
You speak the truth.
To be honest, I have to admit to setting mine on "vibrate" and speed dialing myself.....
