The number of out-of-country license applications, or those for noncitizens, has surged from an average of 946 a week to 1,800 a week since March, MVA spokesman Buel Young said.

The Airlines are starting to make noises about this. Drivers Licenses from States that allow criminal illegals to possess Identification suitable for air travel may have that privilege revoked. When the Airline can no longer trust the States to have done due diligence in the issuance of a license, they should refuse travel to those that bear only that ID.

Do you have any idea of the havoc they create on the highways around Washington DC?

Awesome!!! Maybe my wife will get hit in the back on 95 at 65mph again and our car will be demolished, again.

No license, no insurance, no problem, our insurance will pick it up!

The trunk of our Nissan was in the back seat. Amazingly she was injured. But hey, the driver, who I suspect was an illegal, he was fine. No documentation, no problem!

I'll be handling it much differently next time rather than telling her to rely on the state troopers on the scene.

I expect the TSA to demand that only licenses where states have done due dilligence be accepted as travel IDs, but failing that, I'd hope the airlines would. Do you have any links to news about airlines complaining about this?

Are these Maryland licenses accepted by other states? Can they be used to acquire a license from another state? This is scary.

SOOOOOO- Let me work on this for a moment:

I am an illegal intruder crimmigrant.

I go to Maryland to get a drivers license.
I use whatever address I need to.

I then go to another state and go from having a Maryland drivers license to whatever other state license I can get. Lots of states accept only the prior state license and a clean record for no written or driving test.

NOW- the TSA won't connect me to the "maryland driver's license" problem.

Have I got that all correct???????? Answers, please.

This is "funny" to me for a second reason. When my wife tried to switch over her drivers license when we moved here she wanted to change her name from her maiden to mine. But, they gave her a hard time b/c our marriage certificate is from Italy where we were married.

We did everything we had to do within both countries to have it recognized here. When I was in the military they accepted the documenation for spousal benefits (insurance, etc.). Technically, they have to b/c of international treaties, but it wasn't good enough for MD MVA. But hey, we're legal citizens, why should we get special treatment for anything?

Yep, you're pretty smart to have figured this out, not being an invader and all.

President Bush should issue an executive order prohibiting drivers licenses from any of the states that don't require require legal residency be banned for use for boarding aircraft in the US or for entering the US from countries like Canada or Mexico where US citizens are not required to travel with a US passport.
