A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Who doesn’t love the warmer weather of spring, new flowers, and foliage on the trees. Spring also brings the promise of new life. Sometimes right in our backyards.

The courtship between birds is intriguing to witness.

Have you ever seen a pair of birds flying gracefully, soaring and gliding through the air together? This is an example of courtship. Love is definitely in the air.

Below is a pair of Swallows

There are birds that actually do a bobbing, weaving or jumping dance for their mate. A funny sight to see is how the male Morning Dove chasing after the female, as she runs away from him.

Many male birds will feed the female while courting. I find it so sweet. Below is a picture of a male House Finch feeding his mate. On the right, a shot of Northern Cardinals.

There are birds that sing their hearts out, like the Mockingbird does. What a joy to listen to a Mockingbird while he performs a repertoire of songs of so many other song birds. :)

Although the Mockingbird will sing for hours to woo his mate, it is usually the unmated Mocker who will sing the most hoping to meet his mate. Sometimes you will even hear him sing in the middle of the night. Click for Short clip of Northern Mockingbird song

Who nests in your yard? The clever birds nest in so many places. Wreaths, planters, porches, in shrubs, birdhouses and more. If you have watched a nest, you have seen that the parent birds work long damanding hours to try to ensure success of their offsprings.

Below: A Robin on eggs in their nest. A House Wren going into the house. The Male Wren will build several nests, and the female will chose the one she likes best.

How wonderful to be able to observe from beginning of nesting to end. Pigeons are such characters. They must be fun to watch. :)

Good Morning all!

Birds are beautiful creatures and appear to fly free yet they return to their nests or their bird houses don't they?

So much has been written about "leaving the nest" our young who leave yet return to the warmth and safety of our home.

Maybe that's why we love bird houses for what they represent, leaving the nest and returning to warmth and safety.

May each one of our troops return back to the warmth and the safety of loving arms and their homes.

Well as I was posting a few hours ago.... LOL :)

Good Morning Stopem, I'm sure going to miss our son. He's leaving the nest soon. I won't handle it as well as the birds do. :)

Prayers for our Troops. God Bless our Heroes!

Absolutely lovely GeeBee. We have a lone male cardinal hanging out in our yard this spring. I can't help but feel that he's lost his soul mate. All the rest of the cardinals are in pairs.

Again, thanks for bringing us this delightful thread (and your greeting is very sweet too :o)

How are you Dutchess?
Thank You :)
We use to have a male who was here alone all season. I'd watch him eat alone every evening. We named him Geek Cardinal because he was the only one not paired up and maybe too geeky for a gal. LOL. I hope he is still here but with his mate. I sure can't tell them apart. ;)

I wonder if the younger Cardinals from last year do not find mates immediately. Maybe your Cardinal will find his mate. Or Geek Cardinal is in your yard now. LOL :)

Mornin' GBUSA.
Looks like all your "Birds and Bees" chatter knocked FR off line. Musta been those pornographic sparrow mating pictures that crossed NetNanny's line. :)

I'd loved to see the babies Snugs! :)

I hope I can get some shots of the juvenile birds when they come to feeders. I lost pictures a while back when my computer crashed. I lost some cute photos. I have to make sure to back up what I have now. :)

Lovely Thread, GeeBee.
Thank you for bringing us "Nesting Time".

I love to watch birds at work and at parenting time.
Our porch finches seem to have worked out a "Time Share"
agreement with the nests in our patio.
I've seen at least two sets of babies leave one nest.

Have a Terrific Tuesday.

Hi Dolly,
Thanks so much! I didn't have a title, even early this morning. I should have used that. :) I actually did get so much accomplished this morning. But I'm relieved FR is back up. :)

Thanks. What a pretty picture. The birds are so entertaining. It's amazing how much they have to go through for their young

ROTF!
Hi Diver Dave
That was exactly what I thought. I though I broke FR. It explains why I was having trouble posting too. I was afraid it was my cable connection.

Have a wonderful Day!
