Carla Souza, 37, and son Caique, 11, were found beaten in their Framingham apartment.
Frantic 911 call preceded beating deaths
FRAMINGHAM -- Carla Souza dialed 911 just after 11 p.m. Saturday, asking police to rush to her Framingham apartment because of a problem with her husband, according to police. But an attacker allegedly got to her before officers did one minute later.
About 90 minutes later, Souza's husband, Jeremias Bins, 30, arrived by taxi with the couple's 5-month-old boy at the police department, where Bins was arrested without resistance. The baby was given to the Department of Social Services.
Yesterday, Framingham and State police were left with a 911 recording, a bloody hammer, and questions about what led to the bludgeonings, the town's first homicides since October 2003. Bins is to be arraigned today in Framingham District Court on two charges of murder.
Police do not have a confirmed motive, but say the couple had disagreed over Carla Souza's interest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Souza has been a member of the Mormon Church for about eight years, said Maurice Hiers, president of the Boston stake, or division. She was part of a 30-member Portuguese-language congregation that met at the Framingham Civic League building, Hiers said.

'Both Souza and Bins were from Brazil, Coakley said. Souza, who had been previously married, has been in the United States for six years and Bins for three years, Coakley said.
Souza's former husband, Caique's father, lives in Greater Boston and has been notified, but police would not release his name. Souza's family in Brazil has also been notified, police said.'

Were they in the country legally?
" 2-fer, the Globe got to dump on Mormons AND religious people in this article, they like doing that, .. Mitt is a Mormon....religious people are crazy...you get the picture..."
Except according to the article, it was the victim who was Mormon and very religious. There is no mention of the murderer's religion, only that he thought she was getting too involved in her Church.
But the victim was a Mormon, not the murderer......
Wonder how many of these Brazilians are illegals. Sounds like a trash heap in Framingham.
Whether or not they were in the country legally has so little to do with this tragedy that I'm appalled that you guys would even bring it up.
Prayers for the dead.
A sad story and it happens too often. Thanks for pinging bitt.
Be appalled. Were they here legally or not; this is going to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars and it would be appalling to have to foot the bill for folks who were not supposed to be here in the first place.
