Latinos Caravan to Congress to Push for Illegals' Citizenship (Today's 'Surround the White House')
Associated Press ^ | May 16, 2006 | GIOVANNA DELL'ORTO

"ATLANTA - Vowing to turn street power into political action, immigration rights groups across the country have been organizing caravans of buses from as far as Los Angeles to bring legal immigrants to Washington for a day of lobbying Wednesday."........

"I believe marches were good ideas, but now we need TO MEET the senators to express to them that not everybody is illegal who feels like this," said Sandra Lacayo, a 27-year-old immigrant from Nicaragua."........................

"They are a huge voice that, if motivated, could make the difference. They're trying to claim what they hope to be the collective future of the country," said Sen. Bob Menendez, D-N.J., who met with Hispanic advocates in Atlanta on Monday and is one of three Hispanic members of the U.S. Senate.

Contrary to the street marches, where many fearlessly proclaimed their illegal status, naturalized U.S. citizens and legal residents are in the front lines of this event, and not only because only those with valid IDs can enter the Capitol.

Immigrant supporters are banding together nationwide for a massive naturalization and voter registration drive, hoping to turn immigrants into a million new citizens and get their supporters to vote in this year's elections. Their message mixes fear with confidence - fear that the proposed immigration reform might threaten the status even of those who are here legally, and confidence that immigrants can cast many a deciding vote once they become citizens.

One of the fundamental messages they'll bring to Congress is that it's disingenuous to draw a line between legal and illegal immigrants, Herrera said.".............

Is it Bush, Martinez or Kennedy who will facilitate their access to Senators, who are suppose to be voting TODAY, so that they can make their DEMANDS face-to-face? The latest, "it's disingenuous to draw a line between legal and illegal immigrants"

This 'event' was previously called "Surround the White House" and had been scheduled for Friday.

Ummm... the CIS won't/can't process "a million" N-700 applications in 6 months. Sorry.

Followed by a siesta in the park?

This is so annoying. Outrageous.

Is the WH going to remove the surrounding fence and demilitarize its border with Washington DC? Not likely. The WH should be required to explain why there is still a fence and concrete barriers around the WH butr not the southern US border.

There's no race in the above response, though you're interejecting it there quite willingly.

Playing the racecard is something that generally annoys me. This is one of those general cases.

Imagine this: A group of Americans living in Mexico driving around the main government building in Mexico "demanding" this or that.

What would be the response of the Mexican government and the local citizens? Peaceful "tolerance"?

I don't think so. They'be be lucky to escape with their lives.

"Surround the White House"

Hmmmm one could take that many ways.

I want to really believe that OUR Senators with an (R) after their name would listen to those of us who are TAXPAYING CITIZEN VOTERS before they would listen to a group of FOREIGN NATIONALS from another country who BROKE OUR LAWS!!!

IF our Congress gives in to a bunch that broke our laws and not only commited a misdemeaner that has a sentence of 6 months but continue to break laws by getting a job with fake documents, don't pay taxes and collect all welfare benefits, SSI and get free housing.

Than we need to ask the question are we a SOVEREIGN NATION WITH LAWS??

OR are we a nation of illegal aliens who have now overcrowded this country??

We expect liberals to turn this country into a socialist cesspool but we do not expect Republicans to turn this country into a third world country cesspool!!

Yes we are a Nation of Immigrants BUT we are NOT a nation of ILLEGAL immigrants.

There are Republican values and they do NOT include allowing foreign nationals to spit on this Country!!!

Racism, racism, racism.

The racism charge, the last refuge of the scoundrel. So tiresome.

This really takes the cake. 'disingenuous to draw the line between legal and illegal immigrants'. Well, they have a point. When Bush says it's silly to think we could deport millions of illegals...too much trouble, expense... In other words, it's too much trouble to obey the law, so we won't bother. Okay. So now we're picking and choosing which laws to follow. How soon before the ACLU uses this in court to defend a terrorist? Bush should be careful. Actions have consequences.

Fox and Friends is very good today. They had Frist on.
He said the Senators tried to pass legislation to put National Guards on the border, did I hear him say that it was voted down?

He also said something about passing legislation to fine the employers who hire the illegal invaders.

Take away the jobs and welfare and the invaders will get the he*ll out of this great country because they do not belong here! They are overcrowding America.

So, it's not ok for them to use fake IDs to enter the Capitol but it's ok for them to use fake IDs to take food from my children's mouths.

Why would illegals go home? They'd have to be nuts. There are no decent jobs waiting for them in Mexico or wherever they came from, and while they're here, they get welfare, medical care, education, whatever. Meanwhile democrats will work night and day to get them the vote. They've already got more freebies than a dog has fleas and once they flex political muscle, they've got the whole enchilada.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. So you gotta have a valid ID to be in the Capitol? You mean it's OK to waltz across the border and trash any neighborhood in the US, but you dare not enter DC? That's rich!

From what I've read, even natural Mexicans are not allowed to protest in front of their White House...it is a felony. Gringos would probably be jailed until they could come up with a lot of money, then deported. Mexico does not allow freedom to protest the government's actions.

Can you blame any American for turning to be a racist after the display of Mexicans demanding, demanding, demanding, demanding from law-abiding TAX-PAYING American citizens.

We're mad as H&&^%LL

That is what makes all of this easy. Many Americans do not realize what the "rules" are in other countries. By the time they do realize what is going on they're probably going to be following someone else's rules. It is sad, but true.

I wonder who is paying for the busses. More Commie groups?

I think it was Max Johnsons's article that said according to Bush that once the illegals pass Dallas, these illegals are "wonderful". LOL No more laws for them.
