ABC Claims Government Traced Its Reporters' Calls
New York Sun ^ | May 16,2006 | JOSH GERSTEIN

ABC News claimed yesterday that phone calls made by its reporters and journalists at the New York Times and Washington Post are being traced by the federal government as part of an investigation into leaks of classified information.

In a blog posting, the network said two of its reporters, Richard Esposito and Brian Ross, were told by an unnamed senior federal official that the government had obtained records of calls placed by the two men. The network said the probe may be focused on leaks about a CIA program to detain terrorism suspects at secret locations outside America, but could also involve the network's reports on the spy agency's use of missile-firing Predator drones in Pakistan.

THEIR calls need tracing. I, for one, can never tell whose side they are on...the huggy, lovey terrorists or the horrible, racist Americans. ;)

If there's a lunch truck outside the ABC offices, he'd do well to add Tums, anti-perspirant, Paxil, and dry underpants to his offerings.

Well if their actions are traitorous what the hell do you expect?
C.BS, A.b.c. and n.b.c. are so very worthless as sources for accurate news.

So, what's the big deal? If the info is CLASSFIED what the hell is ABC doing "leaking" it? The term "leak" sounds so innocuous and unharmful Yet, when I was on Active Duty in the Navy if I had spread CLASSIFIED information the way the media does today via "leaks" I would have been sent to the brig via a Court-Martial. It's about time the Administration take a hard line and prosecute those that divulge classified info.

ABC should name the "unnamed senior federal official." Otherwise this story is just a lot of smoke and mirrors from a couple of major whiners.

This is going to be a huge issue and we can watch for reporters to go ballistic. Maybe even today during Tony's first televised briefing.

Our Fourth Estate is the enemy, after all.

If they keep tracking the phone numbers dialed and received by the MSM traitors, eventually they will find OBL and Zawahiri, IMO.

Yes. I call BS on this one. If there actually is such an official I suspect he is not "in the know" but wants the reporter to think he is.

These cats just love it when information is "leaked". I find it abso-smurfly hilarious how these folks react when sources are "leaked".

This just shows that these folks do not really care about the truth or the reporting of the truth.

If a person is unwilling to stand by what they say then, personally, I put little to no stock in the validity of what is being said.

The Koran flushing story is a great example.

When are these folks going to learn that REAL JOURNALISM is as much about SOURCING the material accurately as it is about the content of what it is they write about?

MSM is dying out and the term "unnamed former high ranking administration official" is IMHO the biggest reason why.

The MSM could go a long way towards gaining people's support if they would actually get back to naming names that go with actions they deem improper. Oh and a little reporting on positive things might help them out as well.

I agree, if they had NEWS to report instead of opinion, I would offer that they would actually name those names. The fact ABC ( and others) do not shows that they have been successful at blending the editorial page and the news page.

Why is the MSM dying again? /sarcasm ;)

And, if said calls with reporters were placed to government employess using a government provided desk or cell phone, the government owns that data.
