San Bernardino council considers illegal immigration measure

San Bernardino, Calif. -- Illegal immigrants and their supporters vowed to defeat a proposed measure that would prohibit the city's landlords from renting to the undocumented and force day laborers to prove legal residency to work.

The measure, which qualified for a special election earlier this month, goes before the City Council on Monday. The council can approve it without any changes — making it law — but it is more likely council members will allow voters to decide the issue at a special election.

If passed, it would be one of the most sweeping local ordinances in the nation intended to address illegal immigration.

Nationwide, cities are dealing differently with the estimated 11 million undocumented immigrants, a majority of whom are Hispanic. While some cities have built day labor centers and declared themselves immigrant "sanctuaries," others have used city ordinances to arrest day laborers and proposed using their police officers to enforce immigration law.

The measure's opponents planned a rally outside City Hall before the council meeting and expected a number of protesters to speak during the council's public comment period.

The initiative was intended to circumvent a Supreme Court ruling prohibiting public schools from asking students for proof of legal residency, said its author, Joseph Turner, the executive director of Save Our State. He said if families can't live in the city, then their children won't attend its schools.

"Local politicians throughout the country say there's nothing they can do about illegal immigration, that it's a state and federal issue," said Turner, 29. "But I do believe there are things you can do at the local level."

SB is so loaded with illegals (who will vote illegally too)

What I propose is that everyone who lives in a community with a Home Owners Association propose an addition to their bylaws that states:
1. The HOA is not allowed to hire illegals to perform any work in or around the community.
2. Home Owners are not allowed to hire illegals to perform work n their properties

Both of these measures can be done for the "safely of the kids" (besides it being the legal and American thing to do).

Any other ideas?

The natural intelligence and creativity that put our side on top in the first place is starting to come out. This is just the beginning. The tide is rolling in and it won't be pretty for the illegals and their buddies.
