About 'Americans for Better Borders' (The Enemy Within: US Chamber of Commerce)

America's borders -- land, sea and air -- are our primary ports of entry for billions of dollars in goods and services, along with millions of tourists, business visitors, workers, and other foreign nationals who contribute to our national economy. The events of September 11 also indicate that some have used our borders as an entryway for these evil and malicious attacks. As a result, many have called for increased checks and "tightening" of our borders. While such proposals are understandable, and improvements are clearly needed, difficult questions remain about the potential severe impact to our economy of any improperly conceived system that does not deal realistically with the vast amount of legitimate traffic, including goods and people that cross our borders daily.

I was just re-reading Michelle Malkin's "Invasion." On page 75 she mentions a "deceptively named organization of influentiual Americans...founded with a singular purpose: to sabotage the federal law that would have created a national, automated entry-exit system for all foreign visitors by the fall of 1998."

Malkin goes on to say, "Americans for Better Borders paid lip service to national security concerns, but worked feverishly behind the scenes to prevent implementation of the tracking system."

Seems to me that something like the tracking system described could have been useful in enforcing immigration laws with regard to the 19 9-11 hijackers.

This is what we're up against folks. It's not the liberal democrats that are keeping this nation at risk, it's predominantly Republican groups like the US Chamber of Commerce. They are the enemy within.

I did some additional research on the US Chamber. Another "coalition" they are involved in is USA Engage. Among other things, USA Engage opposed unilateral US sanctions on Iran and lobbied to have Iran admitted into the WTO.

"The Coalition

"To this end, the U.S. Chamber founded the Americans for Better Borders coalition. The purpose of the Americans for Better Borders coalition is to unite regional business organizations and a wide array of companies and national trade associations representing manufacturing, hospitality, tourism, transportation, recreation and other industry sectors to work to ensure the efficient flow of exports and tourism across our borders while addressing national security concerns. The ABB was originally founded in 1998 and was successful in achieving a workable compromise on Section 110 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996."

No doubt working with and for all those industries that hire the illegals you can bet they want better borders. Better wider more open borders.

Among national business advocacy groups is the NFIB (National Federation of Independent Businesses) markedly better from a Pro-American standpoint than the U.S. Chamber of Commerce?

it's predominantly Republican groups like the US Chamber of Commerce

Really?

FYI. There is only one Republican Group. It's know as the Republican Party.

The US Chamber of Commence is an association of businessman, large and small. It is composed of individuals who believe in free enterprise. Many are fiscally conservative and would practice fascism if our system allowed but it is not a political party.

US Chamber of Commerce

Almost as damaging to U.S. sovereignty as the ACLU.

Split hairs and enable all you want. The fact is, the officers of the US Chamber are predominantly Republican. We have to police our own misguided members to be truly effective at pointing out that folly of the Left.

I call these guys the "Grow At Any Cost" (GAAC) Republicans. They will gladly gut this country just so the stock of whatever company these work for will go up half a point and they get a bigger bonus at X-Mass. These guys are the ones who hire illegals for competitive advantage. Their main worry seems to be that we aren't producing enough citizens legimiately (which we're not), so we've got to open the floodgates for the Third World in order to create the appearance of growth and prosperity. While these guys appear and act conservative, they are totally myopic to the consequence of their policies and (in some ways) are just as dangerous than the Left.

LOL - "The Enemy Within" are REPUBLICAN groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce?! I never thought I'd see the day here at FR where REPUBLICANS are the enemy over, you know, DEMON-CRATS!

well, if they undermine our border security, it is up to national security-minded Republicans to expose them and criticize their efforts. Republicans have had a much greater influence on our current wrong-headed border security policy than the likes of Ted Kennedy and John Kerry.

Let me ask you this:

If a Republican favors lax border security and amnesty for illegal aliens and lobbies to get sanctions against Iran, the world's most active sponsor of Jihadist terrorism, lifted, then isn't that Republican just a Republican In Name Only?

We have to police our own misguided members to be truly effective at pointing out that folly of the Left.

Who is we? FreeRepublic has no responsibility to police a private business or a private, business organization.

If the misguided members are classed as Republicans then the statement itself is misguided. FreeRepublic is a conservative forum, not a Republican Party forum.

FreeRepublic is a conservative forum, not a Republican Party forum.

Trouble is, the Rinos think Rinos and conservatives are one in the same...And I suspect they will dispute that statement you made...

I think you meant registered Republicans think they are conservatives due solely to their party registration. Some Republicans spend way too much time reading the MSM and believing their talking points.

In this particular case, the USCC supports two Republican administrations; Bush and Schwarzenegger. One arguably conservative and the other clearly liberal. The partisan commentator was blinded by the fact that these two administrations, with substantially disparate philosophies of governance, have a common goal; the support of business. A salient fact that apparently flew right by the grasp of the commentator marching to the beat of his partisan drum.
