Fox News Host: AARP is Hypocritical

News program host chides retirement group for opposing Social Security reform while establishing mutual funds.

Fox News host Neil Cavuto slammed AARP for entering the mutual fund marketplace after opposing President George W. Bush's proposal to invest Social Security funds in the stock market, calling the organization "hypocritical."

AARP Vice President of Investment Services Nancy Smith defended the 36 million-member elder American advocacy group.

"I'm not saying that all of the Social Security dough, just part of the dough [should be] invested in the market," said Cavuto, the host of Fox News's "Your World."

Cavuto called the current Social Security system "broken," and blamed AARP for opposing a possible solution.

"You were dead-set against that. Yet, your organization now is touting these funds.

So, methinks that you knew you were planning these funds; you didn't want competition from Uncle Sam," Cavuto said.

Cavuto retorted: "But you're going to make money on these funds, the same opportunity you wouldn't give the government to fix a program that's broken.

I think you're being disingenuous and maybe a hypocrite," he said. "It's a disservice to the American people."

AARP fits right in with the Liberal mantra of "It's good enough for me but not for you."

"It's good enough for me but not for you."

Actually, I think it is more like "I got mine so "F" you".

"I'm not saying that all of the Social Security dough, just part of the dough "

so AARP sure is acting like a bunch of "dough-dough"s.

Good for Cavuto. I didn't renew because of their stance on social security reform.

The AARP discounts are not that great.

One can get them many other ways without AARP also getting their piece.

My brother turns 50 this weekend. I wrote in his birthday card that if he's even slightly tempted to join the AARP, not to, because they are communists.

For a few years, their discount on car rentals was pretty good (espec Hertz). But enough is enough !

The AARP makes a whole lot of money from seniors with their medigap insurance policies which generate revenue to the bigshot, Nardelli who is only interested in making money for himself!

The AARPs mutual funds also make money for the AARP but does not benefit the members who buy them.

There are questions with regard to these mutual funds sold by AARP & the return to the senior citizens who buy them.

Before Seniors buy any product recommended by the AARP, I would recommend that the senior citizens look elsewhere & there is a good probality that they will find a comparable product at an equal or better price!

At least you were smart enough to see the light.
There are way too many who just keep the blinders on.

"Everything I get from the AARP goes straight into the trash..."

Sometimes. Other times I send it back in their prepaid, self addressed, envelope (provided for my convenience) with a caustic comment scrawled on the slip.

It all depends on my mood when I go get the mail.
