I'm not panicking no matter what.
If the GOP loses the House they can probably kiss it goodbye for quite a while. I get a kick out of the 'let's clean the House of the rotten GOPers, let the dems take control, and come back strong' crew. I once asked a Freeper (who's handle escapes me) who had this master plan - lose the House in order to win it back - for an example of when it had ever worked.
Stumped him.
If the GOP loses the house by a decent margin, the GOP isn't in any position to retake it, all else being equal.

I have never understood the strategy of losing to "come back strong."
It's like being at 3rd and goal...standing up and saying "Hey, why don't you guys take the ball, push us back ninety yards and then maybe we'll play a little harder." Never mind that they could actually score in the process.

Well, I suppose you could make the arguement that's what happened between 1952 and 1954 for the D's.
But that's not really what happened. All that really happend was that the enormous popularity of Eisenhower swept in a bunch of weak Republicans that couldn't hold on.

The House is not were the problem is. Its is those GOP RINO Senators like Chafee, Snowe, McCain and others that have been the main problem (along with the RAT filibuster).

If the GOP loses the house by a decent margin, the GOP isn't in any position to retake it, all else being equal. With all the non-competitive districts, it is not possible for the GOP to lose the House by a decent margin. Sure the GOP may still lose the House, but it will be by a small margin.
Many of the lost seats will be due to the fact that many Republican voters are fed up with corruption. The Cunningham seat is safe Republican. Voters are taking out their anger over Cunningham's corruption on Bilbray. We'll see the same in DeLay's district and Ney's district. Democrats may pull out a victory in those kinds of districts, but they will be one-termers.
Think Michael Patrick Flannigan -- except a repeat of 1994 can't happen due to non-competitive districts.
