Hilly is Senator of NY for as long as she wants to be. Rudy had the best shot at beating her if he ran in 2000. Pataki was still popular and may have done it, but he decided to go to the well as Governor one last time instead (terrible move, he overstayed his welcome).
As long as Hilly satisfies NYers, that's ok with me.

Pataki could have beaten her. he's going nowhere else, she is the weakest NY statewide democrat and running against her was his best chance.
