Long-time congressman Alan Mollohan was brought up during most of the national sunday talk shows...for allegations about his use of federal funds and his personal finances. But we wanted to know how that might affect his chances for re-election in November. And we went to a town outside the Parkersburg area.
"Everything can affect reelection," said Rosa Hackathorn. "It depends on what people think, and how they feel about it."
When asked if she would vote for Mollohan, Hackathorn said no. But others point to past history as an indication of Mollohan's immediate political future.
"People tend to reelect whoever represents their district," said St. Marys schoolteacher Linda Seth. "We believe the best of the people closest to us."
Pleasants County, where these people were interviewed, is as much a part of the First Congressional District as Wood County is. People here have mixed reactions as to how they will vote in this fall's elections.
"It probably would, yeah," said Texas Scadden.
"I have to make up my mind about who I'm going to vote for," said Donna Harding.
But others have no doubt about their congressman.
"I find it hard to believe he's done anything intentionally wrong," said Seth, who lives in Ritchie County. "My impression of Mollohan is that he's a good man and good for the people."
Mollohan last month stepped down from his seat on the House Ethics Committee after the allegations were made public.
He will be opposed in November by Republican Chris Wakim.

Obviously someone taught the witch how to pronounce the word 'honest' but forgot to tell her what it meant.
I will hold my breath for a Dim to step down from a leadership position while under investigation.
Its all a right wing witch hunt, blah blah blah.
Giving new meaning to the term:
I think Mollohan should be kept on the committee and in his reelection bid. It can only help the GOP for him to remain visible.
I've got something for the "stay home" Republican crowd to do on election day. Practice saying, "Speaker of the House Pelosi."
Yep, it's that "Republican Culture of Corruption" again. /sarc
I think she's had a recent facelift.
Hey toots: Cunningham resigned and is rightly serving time in the hokey. He's not the issue here. Tell your boss to tell Mollohan to at least step down from the committee. I know that he's a Rat and asking him to resign is like politely asking Muslim terrorists to behave.
