Thomas Edison chopped up worms and tried to trick his mother into eating them. He wanted to see if eating worms would enable a person to fly, reasoning that birds eat worms and birds can fly. A good example, by the way of the logical fallacy called post hoc, propter hoc by ancient philosophers.

My daughter had a teacher's aide in 2nd grade who would put a paper napkin over her beverage. I thought it was ridiculous at the time but now I know why!
