I had an aunt who won the lottery... not the big jackpot, but 5 out of 6 numbers and she won a quarter million. She told me at a recent reunion that I wouldn't believe how many people come out of the woodwork trying to leech onto you.

He's got plenty. Take a look at some of his charities. Whites need not apply.

I wish I wasn't. There is nothing good that comes out of that
I can't help thinking CNN changed the context here. Otherwise, this statement reeks of insincerity and BS.

"The little (insert expletive) could give me a couple million, and never miss it. But I'll bet he won't."
Giving you that couple million could be ruinous to your character. Thus he spares you the tribulation and continues carrying the burden.

He has really disappointed me lately with his philanthropy. I own more Microsoft than any other stock in my portfolio, and even though it is the largest software company in the world, since it's last split a year or two ago, it has lost money due to his lack of focus and growing interest in giving it away.
Hey Bill! If it sucks being so rich , then sell the damn company to someone who still has some get up and go. His responsibility still lies with the shareholders, and at this moment he could give a damn.

I don't see him saying anything about feeling guilt... it's the publicity he doesn't like.

I'd like to get an email like this:
"I'm Bill Gates. I'm very rich -- and I wish I wasn't. My plan is to retire to my farm in Nigeria, but first, I want to send you $50M. Please give me your bank account information so that I can make this deposit ASAP. Thanks."

He could just buy Venezuela and become a dictator. Or perhaps invest his money in movie hits like "Heavens Gate". Maybe buy lunch for everyone on the planet.....

Maybe thats because white people don't need as much charity.
To: LouAvul
Yeah, right. About as much as I don't wish that I could be as rich as Bill Gates.......

And post-modern white guilt it is! Rockefeller (the first one), or Edison never to our knowledge wished they weren't rich. The boomer Kennedy kids, on the other hand, have been whipping themselves bloody with chains for the crime of being rich. One Adam Hochschild, a Communist writer, is another suffering rich kid.

He can lay a few mil on me if he wants. I've made a living supporting MS products- I feel like we're old buddies at this point.

While I won't dis Bill on being a tightwad because his Bill and Melinda Gates foundation does some wonderful things to make this world a better place..... I guess we all have our own cross to bear.
I understand that most of his donations are to left wing causes or politicians.
