Ruling on a 15-year-old ACLU case, a federal judge today ordered the city of San Diego to remove a mountain-top cross within 90 days or face a fine of $5,000 a day.

U.S. District Judge Gordon Thompson said, "It is now time, and perhaps long overdue, for this court to enforce its initial permanent injunction forbidding the presence of the Mount Soledad cross on city property," the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

Demonstrate. If ten thousand church member surrounded the cross when the demolition crew came, the TV cameras would come. Why not?

Not likely. The city should sell the plot of land that the cross sits on to a local church.

The city must gift the property to the Veterans. Then it would no longer be "state" property.

My son lives in La Mesa, real close to Orange Grove. He showed me a cross on top of a hill. I wonder if it's the same one. I have a picture. I took it from his patio. I took another one at dark. I could still see it, faintly.

Federal judges have no authority over State matters with regard to religion. None whatsoever. Federal judges only have authority if Congress passes a law. This ruling is a violation of the 10th Amendment and can simply be ignored. No fines need to be paid. The Mayor of San Diego should call a press conference to announce he is nullifying the ruling, in order to educate the public about the seperation of powers of the Constitution.

Uhhhh...no.

But this is a ridiculous ruling. The presence of a cross on such a site isn't "establishing" or contributing to the legitimisation of any religion.

Some people just don't seem to grasp that religion is a part of many Americans' lives. Not mine, but most people's, and that has to be respected as part of life.

Federal judges only have authority if Congress passes a law.

This needs to be repeated over and over again!

Money talks. How much do you think we would need to raise persuade the city to sell the land that it is on to FR?

Time for the people to rise up and hang a "judge"!
Of course they can cut the "judge" down before too much harm is done.

We don't need to do anything. This ruling is unconstitutional. The mayor of San Diego can ignore it and pay no fines. This judge has absolutely no authority over this matter. The mayor and governor have an obligation to say so, as soon as possible.
