There is more and more persecution of Christians in India that pretty much has stayed under the radar. There are very radical Hindus.

There is more and more persecution of Christians in India that pretty much has stayed under the radar.

As you probably know, SOLDIEROFJESUSCHRIST has posted numerous threads on the matter, and it is not just "civil" persecution. To include beatings and murder.

Fortunately, most Hindus here and there have no such tendencies.

Hindu fundamentalists are racial nationalists who believe in keeping India pure of foreign religious and cultural influences. Gandhi was assassinated by a Hindu fundamentalist. Christian missionaries have been burned to death by them. Every year they smash shops that have St. Valentine's Day or Christmas paraphernalia.

Their dream is to return to the pre-Gandhi, pre-British world of strictly enforced castes, traditional Hindu practices (like wifeburning) and Vedic social codes.

It sounds as if you aren't familiar with the Hindu fundamentalists. They are very anti-Christian. They have imprisoned missionaries and can be very dangerous.

"All fundamentalists are zealots."

You seen to suggest there is something wrong with zealots. As a Roman Catholic allow me to ask when the last time you heard of a fundamentalists Christian, let us say......a Baptist, who blow up a Mosque or a Hindu shrine?

I can think of a few such things but it is easier to see a blue moon than a dangerous radical Christian fundamentalist.

While a Hindu fundamentalist may not agree with Christianity they will not kill people. Hindusim is the most peaceful religion on earth with almost no history of killing people and forcing them to convert to Christianity.

The problem is radical Islam which has a track record of killing people and their religion endorses it. There is no text anywhere in Hinduism which even remotely suggests killing people that do no agree with you. There are absolutely some abhorrent social practices still practised in remote villages, however Hinduism unlike Islam is very open to change and things have got drastically better every year.

Wasn't Gandhi killed by one?

Correct. Gandhi's assassin, Nathuram Godse, was a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha.

It was founded as an anti-Christian, anti-Muslim political organization in 1915.

It's first vice president, Keshava Baliram Hedgewar, left the ABHM to form a fascist paramilitary organization - modeled on Mussolini's Blackshirts - called Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

The ABHM and the RSS had a working relationship for decades. The RSS began toning down the fascist pageantry in the 1950s and in 1952 elements from both groups formed the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, a Hindu nationalist political party, under the leadership of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee who had served as the head of ABHM in Bengal.

In 1980, Mukherjee's protege Atal Bihari Vajpayee formed a new Hindu nationalist party based from the BJS and other smaller and even more radical Hindutva (Hindu racial nationalist) organizations.

The new party was called the Bharatiya Janata.

Vajpayee became Prime Minster from 1998-2004.

So, basically, Gandhi's assassin's ideology triumphed over Gandhi's ideals at the Indian polls.
