Tate should have contacted me: I'd pile twice as much for half the money. Their loss.

If I was near the head, I would grab all the pocket change I could find and then try to "score" points by throwing the coins into the eye holes.

Do you have a source and working link for this?

Pile of crap: each can contains 30 grams of Manzoni excrement Can 004 is one of an "edition" of 90 tins of merda d'artista created by Manzoni in 1961 as an ironic statement on the art market. Each can contained 30 grams of his faeces and Manzoni sold it for the same price as if it were gold. I'm not sure "ironic" is quite strong enough. Frankly I agree with Manzoni, and the best part is that the gallery paid still more than its weight in gold today. For 20 FReeper points, fill in the blanks below:
"A ____ and his money soon are parted."
"There's a ______ born every minute."

Actually, the artist and I have the exact same opinion. Art galleries will pay any price for crap. And too frequently the taxpayers have to put up the money for this crap. At least this time, nobody can argue with me about that point.

I think the sculpture of the head in the photo is fine. It's well done, it is representational, it is clear what it is and my Labrador Retriever couldn't have done it. In that respect it is way better than a lot of paintings I've seen.
I think good art adds a great deal to my life.

I'm not sure about Mitoraj's work. It looks okay, but I get the feeling (from the titles) as if he is trying to be more profound than he really is. Somehow, just breaking bodies apart is not very deep; this is true also of the lower half nude with wings. I think the architecture in the background is more interesting; looks like Venice.
But Mitoraj's work looks great compared to the cans of $&*#. I understand their conceptual promise, but really....
Ditter: we are thinking of coordinating a website for FReeper art, relative's art, etc. Perhaps when my school year is over (which is pretty soon). Maybe you can be included too.
If you are an art snob, check out Greenberg's article I just pinged (mistakenly double-pinged). Now there's food for snobs.

I like the fallen head, reminds me of Orpheus' head floating on the bottom of the sea toward the Isle of Lesbos. Perhaps Eros allows for the head to float in the clouds and a bound Eros is the head with no longing, no aspiration, no movement, nothing to look up to. Maybe birds will make nests for their young in it and new life, like thoughts, will fly upwards...
