Cheryl Little, executive director of the Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center in Miami, is still looking into rumors. "The community is paralyzed," she said. "I haven't seen this kind of fear in the immigrant community ever.
Immigrants are afraid of going to work, of taking their kids to school, of leaving the home. People are not going to important medical appointments. There are pregnant women canceling their prenatal care appointments because they feel immigration will be waiting for them there.

They should be. Illegal immigrants are not supposed to be working without a work permit, it's against the LAW. And they should NOT be sending their kids to school at MY expense.

What does this writer not understand about the word ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT??
What is so "frightening" about the future? It's a RELIEF that something is finally being done about the ILLEGAL immigrants who break the law, commit FELONIES by sneaking into this country, commiting FRAUD by using fake SS numbers, and fake ID's.
These are NOT just simple "civil violations".
This writer needs to read and understand the LAWS in this country. But I guess facts are never high on the list at the NYT's.
Too bad the NYT doesn't hire illegal immigrant reporters for a dollar a day. I bet we will at least get better journalism.
