WHO COULD BUILD WHAT IN MEXICO?

They haven't built new refineries for the past thirty years because of American laws and regulations.

Writing inane, ludicrous, silly, uniformed drivel is easy; try learning some accurate facts, before trying to refute someone who posted an accurate, yet curt post.

So why couldn't they build in Mexico? Environmental laws are much more lax, the distribution capability is not that much different than from Texas. And again, the oil companies have been on a refining rationalization program for years as they, yes they, anticipate a switch to non fossil fuels or fossil fuel alternatives.

I have dealt with Exxon/Mobil and Chevron/Phillips over the past few years in their petrochemical derivitive businesses. There own sales people are telling me this. And yes, part of the strategy is to blame enviros while they shift their business models.

The Mexican GOVERNMENT owns ( or at least they used to and if this has changed, in any way, OUR companies certainly aren't allowed to drill and refine on Mexico! ) ALL of the Mexican oil companies and YOU want United States of America companies to just waltz into Mexico and take over THEIR oil and refinery system?

You may choose to believe what you want. The rationalization and enviro blame comments are from those who work for the companies. I'm just passing them through. The thought of placing refining capacity in Mexico is mine. Their enviro laws are much more lax than ours. And they usually embrace our commerce coming to their side of the fence. Why not gasoline refining?

Mexico isn't about to "embrace" OUR oil companies, when they have their OWN, very much protected oil business.

You don't know anything whatsoever about that, so I am much disinclined to believe anything else that you post; for various other reasons, as well.

I am still more concerned about the Middle East. Fact is, I do not feel threatened by the Mexicans among us. In any case, the slow down in the economy, which is coming, will slow the migration north.

After walking into my home to find two illegal Mexican invaders, one of whom had a loaded gun, I sure feel threatened. After seeing hundreds of thousands of Mexicans waving Mexican flags in the streets of the U.S.A., it's hard for me to understand how anyone would not feel threatened.

I really don't think "panic buying" by the regular consumer is what is anywhere near the problem with these higher gasoline prices. The problem is the enviro-whacko/no drilling here, there, and everywhere, world supply and world demand, AND the actions of the big oil companies over the decades to limit refinery capacity. They have been well aware of what they have been doing.

It just amazes me that few people talk about that aspect, they just talk about that $400,000,000 retirement package (which was absurd) and oil company profits (nine cents on a gallon vs. fifty cents federal tax.

He's grossly inarticulate. He can barely finish a coherent thought unless it's on a teleprompter. He can't sell. If he showed up on your doorstep stammering about some new vacuum cleaner you'd slam the door in his face. When he shows up on TV babbling about policy, even when he's saying something likely true (progress in Iraq) folks turn him off or tune him out.

You overstate his inabilities of persuasion and his inarticulateness, but you are right, that inability has been a major problem for years. He and his people should have found a way to have others go out and make his cases day in and day out if he was aware of his inadequacies. But of course the old media probably would not cover those words of his aides anyhow.

Tony Snow should help a great deal.

"The rationalization and enviro blame comments are from those who work for the companies" -- that's true, they do have their advocates out there making that claim. But there are others of us who know that the enviro-wackos have been very destructive and anti-business in stopping drilling and refining. They're both guilty in this mess. But I say...... LET 'EM DRILL.

I also remember then counting 16 oil barges parked out in SF Bay, most riding real low in the water, waiting for the prices to go up,up, up.

Thanks for the info. I mistakenly thought they would have agreed on a set price before they arrived. Who owned the oil on the barges?

At the time we made a note of the the names on the barges we could see, seems like most had "...","..."Standard. Mostly Standard Oil IIRC. My SIL kept records on arrival and departure dates, as she could view the area from her house. The arrival and departure dates were also published in one of the local newspapers, and any good reporter at the time could have done the comparison.
