Members of the SEMO Creation Science Club say scientific evidence proves God created the heavens and earth instantaneously.
The non-denominational Christian group met Sunday afternoon in Dempster Hall's Glenn Auditorium on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University for a creation science rally. About 40 people attended the event, which featured a variety of speakers and supporters of scientific evidence for creation.
Members of the two-year-old SEMO Creation Science Club promote creation science, which attempts to reconcile the Bible's account of creation with scientific data and observations. It rejects evolution and argues there is evidence to support the idea of a creator.
The Rev. Tony Hammack, youth pastor at Christian Faith Fellowship in Cape Girardeau, said there is no mention of evolution in the Bible. He said the evolution theory doesn't even mention a God, who was the only one in existence when the universe and life began.
"Evolution is a theory used to keep God out and it lacks scientific evidence," Hammack said. "But there is a ton of scientific evidence to support creation."
The evolution theory grew in popularity when Charles Darwin wrote "The Origin of Species" in 1859. Darwin's theory holds the notion that all life is related and descends from a common ancestry.
When Darwin announced his theory, a lot of people abandoned Christianity and jumped on board with Darwin, said Randy McWilson, a video production teacher at the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center.
But the evolution theory has two major flaws, McWilson said. "There is no adequate explanation for the origin of life from dead chemicals. And the fossil record, the only documentation of whether evolution actually occurred in the past, lacks any transitional forms."
McWilson said the Bible is proof enough that God created the heavens and the earth in six days.
Greg Watts has spoken to churches and public schools for several years about creation science. He said he once wanted to use science to prove God didn't exist.
"But the more you dig into science, the more it disproves the evolution theory," Watts said. "For years I tried to use science to disprove there was a creator. I now use that knowledge to prove one exists."

I had to comment to beat all the evos to the punch--hehe:).
I haven't been on a good crevo thread in ages. Can't wait to see what this one brings on.
Hmmmm....this rationale is intriguing. It is in a book, ergo it must be true.
I'd be interested in seeing what a ton of evidence looks like.
Isn't this the same guy who ran for president last time around?
I think that fixes that, and shows their position a little better. :)
Maybe it's 2000 pounds of bird poop. hehe
I thought War Between the States was when two fierce rivals in college football played.
A rally for a "scientific" theory? A rally? They actually had a rally for a "scientific" theory? And 40 people showed up.
There is no controversy and there is no debate regardless of how desperately creationists want it to be so.
What a nutjob.
It's not in the Bible, so it can't be true.
Koran folks say the same thing.
A It can be calculated. How many pounds of BS in a cubic ft.
It is in a book, ergo it must be true.
Not just a book. THE BOOK

"Evolution is a theory used to keep God out and it lacks scientific evidence," Hammack said. "But there is a ton of scientific evidence to support creation."
Here is evidence that Reverends can tell lies....Evolution says nothing about God and it's absurd to say that 'Evolution as a theory ... lacks scientific evidence' and in the same breath state that 'there is a ton of scientific evidence to support creation'.
If he was remotely honest he'd admit there is a great deal of scientific evidence to support Evolution, but that he thinks the 'ton of scientific evidence to support creation' he claims exists trumps it and then he'd demonstrate how it does.
Don't ridicule it. If a person uses THE BOOK as a source to live a good life and such, I don't see an expression of devotion to God as a bad thing. If one such as the terrorists uses a book as a source to carry out perveted plots of destruction, then there's a BIG difference.
Quabbling over evolution isn't the same as killing people.
There doesn't have to be a controversy anywhere here. If people can respect others' beliefs on this one, then there doesn't have to be any controversy. It's more where we're going that is more important anyway (in scientific, physical, spiritual or whatever context you put it.
