A political world turned upside down
The Washington Times ^ | 4-21-06 | Wes Pruden

Posted on 04/21/2006 11:22:29 AM PDT by JZelle

The outside world as measured inside the Beltway is suddenly upside down. Howard Dean is talking tough about the hell on the border, Nancy Pelosi is talking tough about the hell inside China, and John Kerry is talking tough about national security. Once upon a time nobody would imagine the Democrats know what they're talking about. But the president's approval rating sinks every time a pollster shoves a thermometer into an embarrassing place in the body politic, and now the not-so-Grand Old Party is trailing the Democrats by 10 points in generic congressional polling. The elections are only seven months away.

Bush also talked big about securing the borders after 9/11. It's just all talk and no action.

I think most folks are intelligent enough to recognize political opportunism when they see it.

The same people who show that Bush's poll numbers are down also have polls showing the poll numbers for Congress are much lower than the President's numbers.

The White House is certainly betting that they are.

I wish I was as sanguine as they are. History, which tends to repeat itself, proves that this is probably a bad bet.

Bush and the "Republican" party have been flirting with the "center" for so long all of a sudden you can't tell the difference between them and the 'Rats. Contrary to popular opinion on FR, the 'Rats aren't stupid. They know an opportunity when they see one, no matter how disingenuous they have to be to take advantage of it.

The "Republicans" are the ones who are looking stupid right now. Deer in the headlights ... "we were just trying to get along ... we don't want to appear 'extreme' ... we just have a difference of opinion ... yes we are spending us into oblivion but we are the good guys!"

But nobody believes them.

Schumer spoke for more Americans, and with more credibility, regarding the Dubai deal. Dubya looked weak, ineffective, and confused. Big score for Schumer and the dems. Any other conclusion isn't sound.

There is one simple, easy way to deal with the democrats, MAKE. . .THEM. . .VOTE. It is that freaking simple and somehow it eludes the dumbasses that run the Republican Party.

The dems want to blame the Republicans for high gasoline prices. OK, then temporarily repeal the gas tax. Make the dems stand up in the House, in the Senate and vote against it. Make them vote, again, against drilling in ANWR.

They don't like our presence in Iraq, make them vote on it again.

They complain about the Bush Tax cuts, fine, make them stand up and vote against them.

They say they want to secure the borders, fine, make them vote AGAIN against any and every plan to secure the borders.

MAKE. . THEM. . .VOTE!!!! Earth to somefreaking body in the GOP.

I don't necessarily doubt these polls, as many conservatives are just as upset with Republicans as libs are, albeit for different reasons. And no one can say the Washington Times is a liberal paper, but I don't think this necessarily spells any doom for Republicans. Remember that disatisfaction among Republicans does not turn into votes for Dems. It is certainly not a good situation to be in, but it is doubtful that Dem dreams to win majorities in one or both houses will be actualized in '06. It may, however translate to gains for them though as Republican voters stay home or vote 3rd party. We'll have to see. Even with a majority now, RINOs give Dems a de facto majority anyway.

No blue dress. But Schumer spoke for 70%+ of Americans and Dubya couldn't convince many people that he was right. The Dubai ports deal really exposed just how weak (and indeed, befuddled) the CIC is.

Dems have pulled a bait and switch, but as someone else here said, who believes them?

The great Bob Dylan:

We live in a political world,
Love don't have any place.
We're living in times where men commit crimes
And crime don't have a face

We live in a political world,
Icicles hanging down,
Wedding bells ring and angels sing,
clouds cover up the ground.

We live in a political world,
Wisdom is thrown into jail,
It rots in a cell, is misguided as hell
Leaving no one to pick up a trail.

We live in a political world
Where mercy walks the plank,
Life is in mirrors, death disappears
Up the steps into the nearest bank.

We live in a political world
Where courage is a thing of the past
Houses are haunted, children are unwanted
The next day could be your last.

We live in a political world.
The one we can see and can feel
But there's no one to check, it's all a stacked deck,
We all know for sure that it's real.

We live in a political world
In the cities of lonesome fear,
Little by little you turn in the middle
But you're never why you're here.

We live in a political world
Under the microscope,
You can travel anywhere and hang yourself there
You always got more than enough rope.

We live in a political world
Turning and a'thrashing about,
As soon as you're awake, you're trained to take
What looks like the easy way out.

We live in a political world
Where peace is not welcome at all,
It's turned away from the door to wander some more
Or put up against the wall.

We live in apolitical world
Everything is hers or his,
Climb into the frame and shout God's name
But you're never sure what it is.

The mediots will quickly forget decades of liberal statements to the contrary, of course.

Anything for the slavering, idiot Party.
