Jordan: "State Security To Begin Trial of Terrorist Sajidah al-Rishawi on Monday" Al-Dustur (Internet Version-WWW) Tuesday,April 18, 2006

The State Security Court will begin on Monday (24 April) the trial of the 35-year old Iraqi terrorist Sajidah al-Rishawi who took part in the Amman hotel bombings, in which seven other terrorists headed by the leader of Al-Qa'idah in the Land of the Two Rivers, Ahmad Fadil Nazzal al-Khalayilah (Abu-Mus'ab al-Zarqawi) took part, and three Iraqi dead, including Ali Husayn and Ali al-Shammari, Sajidah's husband.

The members of the terrorist group, which managed last November to carry out three terrorist operations against three hotels in Amman, face two charges of: Plotting to carry out terrorist acts that led to the death of several persons, and possessing explosive materials without any legal authority to use them illicitly.

According to the bill of indictment, all the defendants belong to Al-Qa'idah Organization, which targeted the security of Jordan and carried out several attempts to this end, including an attack on the General Intelligence Department and firing missiles in the Port of Al-Aqabah. All attempts failed.

The bill of indictment disclosed that while in Iraq, Sajidah al-Rishawi was visited by her cousin Nihad on 4 November 2005 after her brother Yasir had known about her desire to carry out a suicide operation and offered to her marriage to Ali al-Shammari for the purposes of carrying out a joint suicide operation. She agreed and gave him her personal photo. He then accompanied her to the home of a person called Abu-Umar, who wrote the marriage contract between Sajidah and Ali. Al-Zarqawi and Nihad al-Rishawi then sent Sajidah and Ali al-Shammari and two other persons, Safa and Rawad, to Jordan to carry out suicide operations. Before their arrival at the border region, Ali al-Shammari showed Sajidah his passport, which carried Sajidah's photo and the name (Sajidah Abd-al-Qadir Lutayyif) on the page assigned for the wife. He also showed her a medical report indicating that she suffers from sterility and told her that if the Jordanian security men at the border post asked about the reason for her visit to Jordan, she should tell them that she came with her husband for treatment against sterility.

The bill of indictment indicated that Ali al-Shammari requested Sajidah to accompany him to Raddison Sas Hotel and trained her on how to pull the detonation rings fixed on her hand and press the detonation button. At 2030 hours, Ali and Sajidah arrived at the hotel and saw a wedding party in the hall. Ali managed to go in and mix among the guests. He was then followed by Sajidah. Ali immediately detonated the explosive belt. Sajidah pulled the detonation keys fixed on her hand and pressed the detonation button, but the belt did not explode. She left the hotel for the town of Al-Salt, where she hid the explosive belt she wore in the room where she was staying. Following the implementation of the suicide operation Abu-Mus'ab al-Zarqawi claimed the organization's responsibility for it on one of his Internet websites.

The suicide operations targeted three hotels (Days Inn, Radisson Sas, and Amman Hayatt) killing 60 people, including children, and wounding more than 100 others. In addition to Sajidah, the charge of complicity in that operation was directed at Uthman Isma'il Fahd al-Dulaymi (Iraqi citizenship), Hiyam Khalid Ali Hasan (Iraqi citienship), Mazin Muhammad Farid Jamil Shihadah (Jordanian citizenship), Walid Khalid Ali Hasan (Iraqi citizenship), Nihad Fawwaz Atrus al-Riahsawi (Iraqi citizenship), and Karim Jasim Muhammad al-Fahdawi (Iraqi citizenship).
