Details are very sketchy, but we're told the Department of Homeland Security raided a Northeast Ohio business Wednesday. Gregory Palmore is with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement for Ohio and Michigan, and he says there were arrests and detentions as part of an ongoing ICE workforce investigation. Palmore says specifics of Wednesday's activities won't be released until Thursday because the operation is still underway. There are unconfirmed reports that the business is in Rittman in Wayne County, and more than a dozen people may have been arrested. Stay tuned to Newsradio WTAM 1100 for updates as we get more information.

While I am glad to see that there is some attempt at enforcing the current immigration laws, I still have doubts. A few days ago there was a post regarding a raid in Houston that netted 1-2 dozen illegals. Now this report of a couple dozen more. If the estimates of illegals in the millions are correct, then this action isn't even going to put a dent in the daily incursions that we suffer, let alone the already entrenched illegals. Bottom line is that I get the feeling that we are just being thrown a bone to mollify us and dampen the current uproar over the illegal invasion. I'll feel better if and when we see reports of hundreds and thousands being shipped out on a daily basis.

This is Bush tossing political bones to the base. Where have they been the last 5 years?

Now we need to see some indictments of the business owners.

This is way too little, way too late. Big deal 18 out of 12 million! Now, if we had reports coming in from all over the state or country it might be a different issue.

This action is just what people have been calling for. Start with the arrests of employers hiring illegals, deport the arrested illegals, keep up the pressure, and the rest will take care of itself. Of course they can't arrest and deport every single illegal, but they won't have to if they just keep doing a few of these each week. Self-deportation is the desired result, and this is a step in the right direction. Quit belly-aching.

Gee...I sure hope those few really scare the others into self-deportation! LOL.

There is a possibility that these arrests will whip up more demonstrations by illegals, further raising the ire of the US public against illegal immigration.

Let's hope!

Better call out the National Guard for the May 1st protest. I hope it's 100 degrees at every protest site.

UPDATE:

Immigration Targets Pallet Maker

A Wayne County pallet-making site was part of a major investigation by Homeland Security and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). It was a nationwide worksite enforcement operation targeting IFCO Systems North America, Inc., the largest pallet services company in the United States headquartered in Houston. At the plant in Rittman, 18 illegal immigrants were taken into custody, 17 from Guatemala and one from Mexico. 16 have agreed to be sent back to their home nations. Nearly 1,200 illegal immigrants were picked up at 40 IFCO sites in 26 states, which include Columbus and Cincinnati. ICE agents also arrested seven current and former managers of IFCO pursuant to criminal complaints. All these individuals are charged with conspiring to transport, harbor, and encourage and induce illegal aliens to reside in the United States for commercial advantage and private financial gain. The conspiracy charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for each alien with respect to whom the violation takes place. Two other IFCO employees were arrested on criminal charges relating to fraudulent documents. The arrests and search warrants are part of an ongoing criminal investigation of IFCO’s pallet management services division that began more than a year ago. Among those head-honchos arrested yesterday was 29-year-old William “Billy” Hoskins of Cincinnati, an IFCO new market development manager and the general manager of the Cincinnati Ifco plant. He was arrested Wednesday in Milwaukee.

So they are looking at a $300 million fine.

That's not chump change.

More than likely they will settle out of court for a song.

And pallets will cost a little more I would think, and the Lake County nurseries will start raising their prices as well?

All joking aside, I expect hope some serious jail time for some of those involved.
