Bennett: Pulitzer Winners Risen, Lichtblau, Priest 'Worthy of Jail'
E&P ^ | April 18, 2006 | By E&P Staff

Posted on 04/18/2006 4:43:16 PM PDT by Laverne

NEW YORK On his national radio program today, William Bennett, the former Reagan and George H.W. Bush administration official and now a CNN commentator, said that three reporters who won Pulitzer Prizes yesterday were not "worthy of an award" but rather "worthy of jail."

He identified them as Dana Priest of The Washington Post, who wrote about the CIA's "secret prisons" in Europe, and James Risen and Eric Lichtblau of The New York Times, who exposed the National Security Agency's domestic (a.k.a. terrorist) spy program.

Scott Johnson of the popular Powerline blog also weighed in today, under the heading "The Pulitzer Prize for Treason," declaring "Today's Pulitzer Prize award to the Times brings a new shame to the Pulitzer Prize committee."

According to an E&P transcript of the audio of his radio program, Bill Bennett said that the reporters "took classified information, secret information, published it in their newspapers, against the wishes of the president, against the request of the president and others, that they not release it. They not only released it, they publicized it -- they put it on the front page, and it damaged us, it hurt us.

"How do we know it damaged us? Well, it revealed the existence of the surveillance program, so people are going to stop making calls. Since they are now aware of this, they're going to adjust their behavior . . . .on the secret sites, the CIA sites, we embarrassed our allies....So it hurt us there.

"As a result are they punished, are they in shame, are they embarrassed, are they arrested? No, they win Pulitzer prizes - they win Pulitzer prizes. I don't think what they did was worthy of an award - I think what they did is worthy of jail, and I think this investigation needs to go forward. "

He urged his listeners to write the top editors of the two papers and said their addresses were posted on his Web site.

Bennett said he was not opposed to Pulitzer prizes "to liberals" or even those at The New York Times. He hailed the Pulitzer for the Times' Nicholas Kristof. "But these people who reveal our secrets, who hurt our war effort, who hurt the effortsof our CIA, who hurt efforts of the president's people--they shouldn't be given prizes and awards for this, they should be looked into--the Espionage Act, the investigation of these leaks," he advised.

"I'm telling you, I'm hot. I want you to write Bill Keller, I want you to write Len Downie. You can read Howard Kurtz at The Washington Post and decide if you want to write him."

Kurtz wrote today: "Strikingly, the Pulitzer board honored two reports -- on the secret prisons and domestic surveillance -- that President Bush personally urged the editors not to publish."

Meanwhile, Stephen Spruiell, who writes the Media Blog at National Review Online, commented that "the major journalism awards this year went to reporting based on anonymous sources who sought to damage the Bush administration or to commentary that shared the same goal. Sadly, the Pulitzers were no exception."

The Pulitzer Prizes have become more of a moniker for insanity and treason, than real accomplishment.

Yes, typical, and the Pulitzer Prize to Herbert Matthews, Stalin's stooge at the New York Times, who deliberately covered up the atrocities in the Ukraine, has never been withdrawn. These prizes of all kinds, including Academy Awards, that the leftists give one another are increasingly badges of shame.

Yup; shameful stuff. But then what does one expect of Spitty Chrissy and MSNBC/NBC. Always hail the traitors, and condemn the good guys. Its the msnbc/nbc way. BTW: Did you see the latest ratings: Spitty Chrissy's show garnered a total of 384,000 viewers last night (ratings posted on drudge). LOL. So he can hail them all he wants, but nobody is watching.

Showing yet again that these awards are meaningless. I'm sure though that the authors are just swelling with pride over the Bush bashing awards for their unsourced stories that support the terrorists.

In james Risen's book, he factually lays the blame on CLINTON for giving the Nuke plans to IRAN!! BUT, he STILL belongs in prison!

And he also said that to belive his nsa story, one must have a "leap of faith". And for this he gets an award? Stunning, not surprising, but stunning none-the-less.

Of course this is effing insane.

Scooter Libby is facing jail time had to resign in 'media disgrace' because of an obstruction of justice charge on a crime that didn't happen. The supposed crime... "DESTROYING" Joe Wilson by.... *GASP* telling reporters he was lying about saying Chaney sent him, and that he only went because his wife sent him!!! That was a lead to DESTORY people and DAMMAGED national security and HAD to be investigated.

Meanwhile, these two are given awards, and are invited to be guests on talk shows to smile and pontificate on how special and talented they are, that they are able to 'expose' the story.

Doesn't it just piss you off? I try to laugh it off, but it gets harder and harder. The only calming factor, is that we know old media is losing its audience; and the american public (at least those that pay real attention) understand that the media is the enemy within. As for Libby; filings are due in court tonight (I think) from the media who have been subpoened. Should be some interesting reading later on. And the NYTimes still REFUSES to release information on exactly what they have been subpoened about -- what notes from what reporters to what individuals. And they know the sources on those stories, but they refuse to reveal that information. Sunshine for the President and the White House, but not for the NYTimes.

Could it have been for something like this?

Bill Handel, the abrasive and mocking morning host on KFI, had a congressman nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize to mock Tookie's nomination.

I'm supposed to get a legal settlement this summer and one of my favorite fantasies is to go to NYC and DC and do the following: throw a bucket of blood on the doorsteps of the NYT, ACLU and the Democrat party headquarters to show their bloodguilt in covering up and aiding and abetting in the greatest mass murders of human history.

Play with some numbers: according to the authors of Democide and the Black Book of Communism, communist/leftist regimes were and are responsible for about 160,000,000 deaths +/- a few million (factor in usual statistical error.)

Fast forward to 1973. Since the legalization of the abomination of abortion approximately 45,000,000 children have been murdered in our version of the Holocaust. Now add the numbers. We're talking about a quarter of a billion people murdered.

That's right, children, a QUARTER of a billion people killed in the "name" of "progress, equality" and other leftist cliches.

May G-d have mercy on us.

I don't get that cartoon. Was it implying Bush only cares about embryos and not "black people?"

I actually saw this bumper sticker a few weeks back in Florida:

"If you can't trust me with a choice, how can you trust me with a child?"

How friggin dumb is that? It's basically admitting that all these pro-choice people are a bunch of idiots who can't raise a child.

I think Bill is blaming the wrong guys. Not that it wouldn't be fun to watch leftist reports do the perp walk, but they got that information from someone. That someone deserves all the scorn and humilation we can heap upon him.
