To the Editor:
I do not appreciate the archdiocesan article telling Catholics to contact their legislators to support Senate Bill 1033. When will the Catholic Church learn to stay out of politics? Have we not lost enough Catholics in the past 20 years? I myself am seriously considering leaving the Catholic Church after more than 50 years of faithful attendance and support. Perhaps it makes you proud to see thousands of Spanish people parading down the streets of America waving the flag of Mexico; however I do not share your enthusiasm. These people have broken the law by entering this country illegally; they take our money and pay no taxes. They flood our schools with children who cannot speak English dragging down our academic standards and test scores. They utilize our medical system for free. They displace Americans from their jobs and they have no interest in becoming Americans.
A great many of these people do not speak English … and have no incentive to learn. Our pastor and several other Catholic churches in and around Atlanta preach a united Christian community, yet they have separate Masses in Spanish, separate fundraisers, separate breakfasts and events. At Christmas the Mass was said in English and Spanish. Why would these people want to learn the language when we make it so easy for them not to? Why would they assimilate into our society when we work so hard to recognize theirs? What we have in America is a culture in a culture and the Catholic Church is quite happy with it. I am not. I am a veteran who fought for this country and buried several of my friends who were not so lucky. … It pains me to see our bishop and his personal newspaper falling in step with a left-wing political amnesty program. …

Could it be the Bishops are a little concerned about what the people are concerned about?
Who knows, do you trust these Bishops?
Will they ever respond?
Would Cardinal Mahony publish these letters in his newspapers?

To the Editor:
It is my privilege to thank Lisa Olwine of Lawrenceville for her Letter to the Editor published in the March 30 edition of The Georgia Bulletin.
Ms. Olwine stated with elegance and special thought my feelings and attitude about Bishops Gregory and Boland’s pastoral letter on immigration reform.
I eagerly look forward to the bishops’ response and clarification of the points Ms. Olwine raised in addressing her concerns.
Thank you again Ms. Olwine for your letter.

That about sums it all up.
And lets add to that they threaten to shut down our ports, railroads, wall street, and make racist comments against Americans .
Count on threats to the tax-exempt status of any church that dares to speak out AGAINST illegal immigration. Separation of church and state, you see, only applies when conservative views are espoused. John Kerry can bloviate from any pulpit until he's blue in the face, but the IRS says people can't even pray in church for George W. Bush to win reelection.
Somebody needs to point out this hypocritical double standard, in a highly public way.
But the same illegals who don't learn English also don't assimilate into the American version of the church. They will want separate mass in Spanish and will want to make their own decisions on church matters, not subject to gringo standards. They are as likely to celebrate the Day of the Dead or Pinko de Mayo as Easter. Not meaning to be judgmental, just saying they will bring their own Mexican Catholic church, thank you, just as they will bring their own separate cultural standards to everything else.

The biggest thing that these Catholic Bishops are missing - and I am a lifelong practicing Catholic - is the grave injustice being done to those seeking to come to America legally. The quota for legal immigrants is being suppressed because of those who have come in illegally. So, the Bishops of my church are wrong, the President for whom I voted twice is wrong and the U.S. Senate, including my two Republican Senators from Tennesse, are wrong. So, what do we do when the response from all of our leaders is a resounding, "Screw you!"?
Follow the money. That's exactly what the Church is up to.
Several pastors have told me that their Latino parishioners are not generous givers.
It's way past time for the silent majority to be heard. Our "so-called" politicians in Washington, who were sent there to serve the people, seem to be not only deaf but power hungry.

Playing to the media with mass counterprotests wouldn't likely work out; either a blackout or major downplaying in numbers would occur. Or, the counterprotest would be infiltrated with agitators, and the inevitable provocations would be played over and over again, painting the entire thing as racist.
Recall elections in states that allow them would likely get the point across. Boycotting businesses that clearly employ illegal aliens would likely get the point across. Voting any politico in support of amnesty would only be effective if their replacement were opposed.
That should be "voting out."

Forcing the governors of our respective states to deny tax-payer funded benefits and providing for stiff fines and/or jail time for those who knowingly employ them would cause them to deport themselves. End of problem. Trouble is, the "governing class" doesn't give a rip.
