Resumption of Above Ground Nuclear Testing
King County Journal (WA) ^ | April 11, 2006 | John B. Chadwick

Posted on 04/11/2006 4:30:13 AM PDT by scooter2

Resumption of tests absurd

I shake my head in stunned disbelief that the U.S. is so determined to test every limit of absurdity and insanity with the resumption of above-ground testing at the Nevada Test Site on June 2. Is there nothing that the U.S. military considers grotesque any more? Is humanity so numbed by the incessant spread of death and destruction that nothing is considered outrageous any more? Surely, if the United States is so morally and spiritually bankrupt, then we have nothing to care for or to value or to hold dear. We are so far into the abyss of despair that nothing else matters.

I am outraged. I know there are many others who demand that this disgusting plan should be stopped and never carried out. The people who dare to make such a plan should be removed from office because they are a threat to all humanity.

A "Letter to the Editor" published in today's King County (WA) Journal. Does anybody have any idea what this person is talking about?

I just googled John B. Chadwick. Got one hit that mentions LE looking for a guy with the same name for molesting a vending machine.

This utter bonehead refers to the upcoming test of a large conventional munition. It is not a nuclear test. In fact, it has been announced well in advance so no one will make the mistake of believing it so. Clearly, this guy didn't get the message, and, given his obvious intellectual limitations, it's likely he would not have comprehended the message even had he received it.

According to the New Yorker, this testing is going to be done in Iran.

I noticed the President had to respond to that yesterday. It is ashame that our leaders have to be distracted by the lunacy of a liberal journalist.

We have all witnessed a lot of death and destruction, and it's primarily the result of islamic terrorism.

Doing whatever it takes to remove the threats to our country and lives is a good plan.

Singing Kumbaya and hoping it goes away is not a good plan.

Hopefully the mullahs were just as freaked as the MSM :)

I guarantee I have a better idea what he is talking about than he does.

This person epitomizes the term "clueless". There is to be NO above ground nuclear test in Nevada, Arizona, or even in Washington, where this dodo lives. He literally doesn't know the difference between a firecracker and a funeral pyre.

It's to be a large conventional test similar to this one back in the 80s.

In 1963, all nuclear and many non-nuclear states signed the Limited Test Ban Treaty, pledging to refrain from testing nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, underwater, or in outer space. The treaty permitted underground tests. France continued atmospheric testing until 1974, while China continued up until 1980. The last underground test by the United States was in 1992, the Soviet Union in 1990, the United Kingdom in 1991, and both France and China continued testing up until 1996. After adopting the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty in 1996, all of these states have pledged to discontinue all nuclear testing. Non-signatories India and Pakistan both last tested nuclear weapons in 1998.

The King County (WA) Journal is irresponsible to post this letter to the editor.

Is the test going to be to the west of the actual long ago nuclear tests. The dust from the plume zone where actual fallout landed may cause EPA problems and lawyers running rampant.

The New Yorker -- now there's a magazine where I look for all my breaking news.

What I consider grotesque is having to watch Americans decide between jumping to their own deaths or being burned alive on 9/11.

I disagree completely. This bonehead "got the messqge", but he chose the favorite liberal communication form of distorting a half-truth to inflame his left-wing brethren into protesting a completely innocuous action by the Bush administration.
