What we have to do first to reduce illegal immigration

There's a frequently ignored necessary condition which must be dealt with before we can get illegal immigration under control:

Make sure that the media doesn't ignore or lie about illegal immigration.

As long as the media is able to either ignore or lie about this issue, all the grand plans involving walls or fines or what have you will amount to nothing.

If the media devoted as much attention to telling the truth about this issue as they currently do to lying about it, they would force our politicians to take actions to reduce illegal immigration.

If you want to reduce illegal immigration, please concentrate on two things:

  1. Contacting your representatives.
  2. Encouraging media reform.

As a practical example of the second, consider tonight's nightly news broadcasts. All of those reports contained lies or misleading statements, and they were watched by millions of people. Obviously, pro-illegal immigration propaganda of this sort has an effect. Consider what would happen if those broadcasts had presented the anti-illegal immigration side of the story, for instance by doing somthing as simple as calling them "illegal immigration marches" instead of "immigration marches".

Likewise when politicians are questioned about immigration. What would have happened if Jim Lehrer had asked Nancy Pelosi a tough question in this interview? Other recent NewsHour coverage of immigration has featured two people supposedly on different sides, except both of them are supporters of illegal immigration.

So, how do you influence the media? One way is for a large number of people to send them emails or even call or FAX. When posting a biased media report at FR, please take a few extra seconds to look up the email address for that source's ombudsman, editor, or publisher and encourage others to write emails complaining about their coverage.

For instance:
abc.go.com/site/contactus.html?cat=World%20News%20Tonight
nightly@nbc.com
evening@cbsnews.com
pbs.org/newshour/letters.html

Another way is to "influence the influencers" via blogs as described in How to influence the illegal immigration debate. Bloggers are closer to their readers than the MSM is, and if a blogger posts inaccurate information, post a short, polite rebuttal in their comments section. You can search for recent blog posts at Technorati. That also allows you to see only posts from popular blogs; don't waste your time responding to something from a blog that only has a few other blogs linking to it.

Another way is to start your own blog. Highlight examples of media bias, and very occasionally send emails to more popular bloggers asking them to link to your post. And, those using a search engine to find out about a particular reporter might run across the post where you discuss that reporter's biases.

Note that some Washington Post stories use Technorati to display a link of blogs that are discussing that story. Write an attention-grabbing, factual headline then use the 'ping' link at the bottom of Technorati's page to ping that specific post.

"Make sure that the media doesn't ignore or lie about illegal immigration."

Making sure the media doesn't lie would be tantamount to making Helen Thomas look like Catherine Zeta-Jones... and no, I don't know how to post pics yet. ;)

Today you march, tomorrow you vote?
While you demand I learn Spanish
Or you’ll yell racist and lunge for my throat

You demand rights and citizenship from me
While waving the large flag
Of the country your risked your life to flee

You say want what is your right
While I pay for your children’s schooling and births
And we watch as MS-13 and our police fight

You shout that you came and that you should stay
While my money pays for your food stamps
And you and your friends take my friends’ jobs away

My taxes rise to pay for your children born here
Their schooling, their births, every trip to the emergency room
And left to run wild gangs add to our fear

I say I can’t pay for everything you demand and you say I had “the race”
While the poor kid from Oklahoma can’t afford college
When the kid from Mexico gets into college and funding in his place

Break our laws with your hand out for more
For welfare, for anchor babies, and demanding of jobs
When ever more jobs leave our own shore

How can we be equal when we import poverty and destroy law and order?
How can we afford the burden that they and their children bring?
And ask those who are raped and murdered because we have an open border.

For the black guy who loses his job and the Canadian who waited his turn
And the Chinese told to learn Spanish and the Indians who earned their visas
If we give Mexican illegals amnesty, what is the lesson THEY learn?

While we're waiting for our media to reform (good luck with that) spokespersons on our side can get clever & beat them at their own game, to wit

illegal immigration is hurting the poorest Americans, minorities hit hardest:
its driving down THEIR wages and disempowering them in the workplace
its closing ERs in THEIR neighborhoods
its dumbing down THEIR schools
While lining the pockets of fatcat businessmen.

Not only is it more clever than railing about illegality alone, it has the added advantage of being the truth.
