I would argue just the opposite, that most of today's conservatives don't have the honesty to call themselves what they are; liberals. What conservative in his right mind could make a case for Social Security being viable in any form, have any Constitutional foundation at all? None, but it happens today. The conservative movement has been coopted by government money in the form of student grants and loans, SS, Medicare, corporate welfare, you name it. Any conservative that supports anything other than a Constitutionally limited government is a liberal, and unfortunately, I'd say that 70% of the conservative movement falls into that basket. And when it comes right down to it, what's worse, a "liberaltarian" on the fringe of politics, or a "conservative" who is in the belly of the beast?
No, not really, socialist RINOS like yourself just need to get over the fact that we don't like big government or regulation of private life.
