More than 60 bison are roaming about 10,000 acres in the Bryson Hesperia area on the southern edge of Monterey County, after breaking loose from a truck last week.
Members of the Chumash Indian tribe were transporting the bison from South Dakota to a wilderness preserve on Bryson Hesperia Road northwest of Lake Nacimiento.
The truck they were traveling in got stuck in the mud. After trying to lighten the truck by letting some bison off, the entire herd let loose.
So far, six have been corralled and at least two shot, said Maiwo Agdeppa, who was helping transport the herd. Agdeppa said they will wait a few days for the bison to calm down and gather together before they try to corral them. Attempts to corral them earlier this week failed.

SIXTY bison.... on ONE truck ???
Ruby Tuesday's has bison burgers. I love those things.
Yak. That is the BEST meat I've ever eaten.
You are right. Surely that would exceed DOT standards and bridge standards for truck weight.
A Bison can weigh upwards of 2200 pounds. We are talking upwards of 60tons+ of GVW there, I dont thinks so.
If these are real bison, not beefalo, they are almost impossible to keep in a fenced enclosure. Beefalo are a bit more easily handled, but not much. I feel sorry for those charged with the roundup.
Trucks in CA cannot exceed 80,000 lbs total weight (load and truck). 24-26 tons is a typical payload without overweight permits.

I wish someone would give me a home ... in the Bryson Hesperia area on the southern edge of Monterey County.
Isn't that where the white-tail bucks and the slender-horned gazelles enjoy cooperative games?
One rarely hears a negative utterance there,
And the aerial visibility quotient is quite high.
