WASHINGTON - Former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, a Texan touched by a lobbying scandal that ensnared some of his former top aides and cost the congressman to his leadership post, won't seek re-election to Congress, a Republican official said Monday.
DeLay was expected to disclose the plans Tuesday, said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the DeLay had not publicly disclosed his plans.

This should end all doubt as to the reasons why the Dems went after Delay.
Guilty or not, they have again run a Republican out of office on charges that would not even draw a headline in the NYTimes if it was a Democrat.

(Well, Kerry did win the exit polls.)

So I wonder if he went to primary to prevent any of the guys running against him from winning and then expects a vacancy committee to appoint a better candidate.
To: NormsRevenge
This isn't the end of the world... frankly, all these guys stay way too long. There's too much money in politics for a person not to be tainted after awhile - even if they're blameless, they still have to chase after money to keep in office.
Tom needs to take a break, finish up with this annoying legal business is Texas, and figure out what he can do next with his considerable skills..

Republicans always throw their own to the wolves.....One thing you can say about the Dems is they fight for their people no matter what.

How about Tom as the new White House Press Secretary?
That would drive David Gregory to a drug he hasn't tried before.

Any word of McKinney's withdrawal?
Nope.
So this is just further proof that GOP voters will not accept this kind of behavior in it's candidates, but democrats do.

Republicans always throw their own to the wolves.....One thing you can say about the Dems is they fight for their people no matter what. Very true - And just look how many on the right (GOP) want to jump ship on GWB when the WOT gets tough.....or look at the awful comments made toward GWB over a differing of opinion when it comes to the immigration debate (from those on the right).

He's backing out just weeks after winning the primary?
Hmm, smells like a guilty plea is coming down to me.
