Experts: Iran May Retaliate With Terror If Nuclear Sites Attacked
Washington Post ^ | April 1, 2006 | Dana Priest

As tensions increase between the United States and Iran, U.S. intelligence and terrorism experts say they believe Iran would respond to U.S. military strikes on its nuclear sites by deploying its intelligence operatives and Hezbollah teams to carry out terrorist attacks worldwide.

Iran would mount attacks against U.S. targets inside Iraq, where Iranian intelligence agents are already plentiful, predicted these experts. There is also a growing consensus that Iran's agents would target civilians in the United States, Europe and elsewhere, they said.

U.S. officials would not discuss what evidence they have indicating Iran would undertake terrorist action, but the matter "is consuming a lot of time" throughout the U.S. intelligence apparatus, one senior official said. "It's a huge issue," another said.

This will only get worse.

We better not wait until they are capable of waging a nuclear terror war.

They might very well attack in any way they can, although that would only be vengeance and would not bring any kind of victory in this universe.

Don't see any good options. Asymetrical warfare will be Iran's modus operandi along with everything they can muster.

And each day the enrichment for fueling bombs continues apace.
Perhaps the bombs are already assembled.

It's all bad.

I guess we should do nothing because we're afraid of terrorists. Is that right?

It's all B.S.

One "errant" missile into an Iranian refinery or pipeline and the Mullahs will be begging for peace.

Like their agents in Iraq arent already working at peak. If there are agents in this country who will atatck for Iran lets get on with it, better they attack now before they become stronger. If Iran decides to instigate an attack in America, CAIR better get out of the way./ I am not sure the Government can keep islamics out of harms way. they may have to intern them for their own safety. I would suggest if this starts they seek a way to go home.

"Stand in line Iran."

Yeah. Whoop-de-friggin-do. We're all shaking in our boots.

I'm part of the cold war generation and for quite some time was accustomed to the idea that civilization could all end in an instant.

So now I should be scared of this ranting?

Iran's agents would target civilians in the United States

That would seem to imply that Iranian agents are already inside the US. Wonder how they got in? Open border?

Don't see any good options.

Unfortunately, you're right. Unless diplomacy actually works (not a good chance), there are no good options. But I think striking them (without a land invasion) from the air will be the only thing we'll be able to do.

It will be hard and tricky, but we actually may be able to strike them with minor retributions. What happens after the smoke settles from the strikes will be the scariest moment of all, determining what happens next. If we communicate that "there's more where that came from," we have a good chance of avoiding disaster.
