I live in Longmont and I am outraged that this principal has banned the American flag from being displayed. What hasn't been reported is how proud Americans in this town have had to witness the Mexican flag being flown from car windows up and down Main Street ALL week. So, the American students decided to show their pride for America, and the principal has to resort to banning the American flag!?! I don't think so.

This is AMERICA.

Sounds like this school needs FReeping. Let this school be surrounded by thousands of American flag waving supporters of freedom of expression.

The students may be prohibited from bring flags on school grounds, but wouldn't it be great for some one to hand out small American flags after school to any student that wanted to show support for their country.

May we assume that the Pledge of Allegiance is not being said in this school? After all, it might be an occasion for some students to pledge earnestly and loudly, and this principal seems to consider that sort of thing inappropriate!

Thinking back to the sixties here, can anyone imagine a child suspended from school for honoring the flag, and finally being escorted back into school by federal marshals? Past a gauntlet of angry illegals? Is that where we're going? Are there now areas of the US where the American flag is now considered hate speech, and local officials can ban it?

I'm reminded of an incident in Boulder, CO shortly after 9/11. The head librarian refused to fly the American flag in the foyer of the library because she felt it was a divisive symbol, and she wanted people from all nations to feel welcome in the library.

A few weeks later, the same librarian allowed several pieces of "artwork" to be displayed to commemorate battered women's day or some other such man-hating event. One said piece of artwork titled "Hanging `Em Out to Dry" featured a mobile made from several rubber phalli. Surely that is welcoming to people from all nations.

It amazes me that somehow the American flag is offensive in our own country.

Dear Mr. Stumpf:

It may come as a surprise to you, but there are people in the United States who actually love and cherish this country. They believe that the American Flag is a great symbol of the values of our precious freedoms, including freedom of speech. At the heart of America's history as a beacon of hope to the world, lies the fact that we maintain a sovereign nation within distinct borders and that within those borders, her citizens are protected by the rule of law.

Now you and others have come along to spit on this heritage and to undermine the freedom, the liberty and the hope that the American flag has stood for at schoolhouses, at courthouses and on battlefields since the founding of the Republic. You exhibit disdain for the many who shed their blood under that flag for all it represents. I looked everywhere in the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence and our other founding documents, and I couldn't find a word about multiculturalism or any other post-modern stupidities suggesting that we should do away with our flag, our liberty or our sovereignty as a nation in the face of a wave of illegal invaders (yes, I said illegal).

You have no place teaching the young people of this nation. Your ideas are quite literally subversive to the United States of America. You should resign immediately. Failing that, if there is any common sense and true patriotism left in your school district, you should be fired immediately.

I love this picture. While I don't think people should physically put the flag in someones face, I absolutely think they should be able to wave the flag or hold it at any free moment they have. I think it's a moral obligation to be honest. Forbidding it like it's wrong.... is just stupid and makes me feel this country is losing itself.
