Republicanism proves a tough sell in Harlem

HARLEM -- When the Republican Party declared its courtship of African-American voters a priority, it began looking forward to the day when enough black voters shift to the GOP to make even Democratic Party strongholds like New York -- and places like Harlem's 125th Street Square, the historic center of black intellectual thought -- fertile ground for Republican candidates.

Ken Mehlman, chairman of the Republican National Committee, raised eyebrows last year with a series of speeches at black gatherings, declaring at the NAACP convention that his party ''was wrong" for past race-baiting strategies. A small but significant group of African-American politicans, including a pro football Hall of Famer, are running as Republicans for major offices. And the GOP boasts that more black voters chose George Bush in 2004 than in the hard-fought 2000 presidential election.

We aren't even talking about genuinely conservative Republicanism. I wouldn't imagine how muich tougher sellinf conservatism in Harlem will be.

I think the only way conservatism will flourish is places like this is to have some economic reformer rising from the Democrats nominee, a bit like Roger Douglas in the Labour Party of New Zealand. Suppose we have one pro-life, pro-free market, hawkish Democrat who is also against illegal immigration? In other words, another Reagan except his party label?

Maybe they could include it in every bag of crack.

Or whatever kind of container crack comes in.

****and places like Harlem's 125th Street Square, the historic center of black intellectual thought ***

Bwahahahahaa I would think Bill Clinton's Harlem office would be the intellectual center of Harlem, but maybe this guy is right. Nothing like a street corner for a historical intellectual center

What is it that Republicans have for the people in Harlem? Vote for us and well flood your labor market with zillions of illegals who will undercut you? Doesn't sound like such a great deal.

First: So what around the country Blacks vote at or above the tipping point number of about 14% GOP in about 10 important states. That leaves 86% who don't. To the ignorant that seems like a safe enough margin. It's not. If the Blacks all over voted 14 to 16% GOP a number that is very doable, the rat is dead. Harlem is full of hard core marxist/socialist-hate-America-hate-Whitey ash holes. They will always be part of the 84% when we get the needed 16%. They will always be left behind with charlie rangel. As I said So what?
