State Sen. Tom McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, wants to clear up something: He did not endorse former state Assemblyman Howard Kaloogian of San Marcos for the 50th Congressional District race.
Kaloogian mailers have gone to Republican households containing a picture of McClintock with quotes from the popular conservative saying nice things about Kaloogian. McClintock, who is running for lieutenant governor, protested yesterday that those quotes were from two years ago when he endorsed Kaloogian for U.S. Senate.
McClintock said because of his high regard for state Sen. Bill Morrow who also is running for the 50th Congressional District seat he is not making an endorsement in the race.
For his part, Kaloogian points out that the mailer doesn't actually say McClintock is endorsing him for this race. McClintock's picture and quote run under a headline: Respected by conservative leaders. Others under that headline, like Steve Forbes, have given their endorsement and it says so. McClintock wasn't the only one irked by Kaloogian's use of other candidates. Morrow also wasn't happy.
Howard Kaloogian's campaign Web site includes a picture and a quote from me from 2001 that implies that I have endorsed his candidacy for Congress, Morrow, R-Carlsbad, said in a press release. Howard knows that I have not endorsed his candidacy, and that I am running for the same congressional seat.
Morrow called for Kaloogian to take his photo off the site.
You make my point for me.
Amazing that in less than 20 years we have already forgotten "Reagan's Rule".
Oh go cry on someone else's shoulder, please.
It is quite apparent that the moderates are sucking hind tit in the polls, and desrvedly so, hence why you and others are so eager to smear Howard.
Filner, never heard of him. I guess that's good, he must be relatively benign, you should consider yourself lucky..
Let me get this straight. so you're saying anyone who supports Howard is stupid too?
just like anyone who supported Gilchrist is stupid too?
Is that what you're calling Tom's response?
A word of advice,, lay off the Rhino wine... lol (/sarcasm)
-- There, that should placate those who feel their and my candidate of choice in the Recall and upcoming Lt Gub race is being skewered unfairly on this forum. ;-)
Filner's far from benign.
He's as rabidly left as you can get, just like Angelides.
Is he benign too?
sorry about your misfortune in thta regard re: filner. I don't pay much if any attention to SoCal and the reps from there. we got some real doozies up here already to barf and puke about.
I have a feeeling Phil will be out after the demRatic primary, just a hunch.
NO, criminy, DL , quit trying to put words in my mouth like some here at FR.
I am referring to some of those here who lambaste him here and readily so as you see today and recently.
photos of peaceful Baghdad
A true Kodak moment, indeed. ;-)
Filner's been a rabid lunatic on Hannity & Colmes.
He's nationally infamous, not just locally.
I'd welcome ANY (R) candidate from the 50th to swoop down here and take him on.
sorry I missed him on H&C or maybe not as you describe him, I may have seen him but he was so forgettable I forgot it was him.
Y'know, maybe he's one reason I'm so hell bent on folks focusing on the Democrats instead of circular firing squads.
Guys like Filner are malignant ticks that bore themselves into the tenderest flesh of society. They should scare the hell out of everyone.
I hear ya on the circular firing squad,.
Maybe you and others should direct some of that concern at the moderates that try and use a conservative forum to re-mold the Republican party into dem-Lite. Ya think? ;-)
Not crying. And nowhere near your shoulder.
My impression is that a lot of people want a lock step hard core far right party. I want legitimate debate and multiple points of view. I also want to maintain the majority. There is something to be said for supporting the most conservative candidate with an opportunity to win. It's a layered decision making process, especially in CA.
It's a tough question - do we support the candidate we most agree with even if they cannot win? I'm NOT saying your guy can't win, but that is the question conservatives continually face.
When you concede a 'legitimately divided party' then you are adding to the problem, not solving it. Read a few NYT articles about the state of the (R) party - and you may find that they agree with your assessment, and are hoping it's true.
End of conversation.
I'll be directing my focus and efforts against the Democrats, period, and in support of the elected officals battling them in the trenches.
Conservative pissing contests are about as productive as religious debates.
Both just feed egos, and neither accomplishes a single positive thing, IMO.

You say that likes its something evil,, imo.
Like what we have is working so well at present. moderates out the ying yang, appeaisng everyione, and pleasing no one at the same time.
Ideas win, hyperbole and hoopla do little to serve the people.
You want debate, when 11(?) candidates are running in the GOP primary, there is no way it can happen. party officials , as inept as they are sometimes in this state should have limited the number so we could have seen a real debate, not a quick dog and pony show.
end of convo.. says who? You? my my, that smacks of something. if you ask me.

Oh my, dragging religion into it. ;-)
Maybe we should be doing some urine testing during those peeing contests while we're at it. lol
