Bills could swell legal immigration
The Dallas Morning News ^ | March 30, 2006 | MICHELLE MITTELSTADT and SUDEEP REDDY

WASHINGTON – From the corridors of Capitol Hill to the streets of Dallas, people are passionately debating immigration – at least the illegal part. Almost entirely unnoticed is that the Senate may be poised to hike legal immigration in dramatic fashion.

Some estimate that bills pending in the Senate could double the nearly 1 million green cards handed out yearly, granting legal permanent residence.

The U.S., which already welcomes more legal immigrants than any other country, would see major increases in green cards under both immigration proposals being debated in the Senate. The bills also would add tens of thousands of temporary visas for workers, from the high-tech industry to medically underserved areas.

Great right when we need a moratorium on immigration until we get things under control...

It truly is a battle between the ruling class and the rest of us...many democrats are too stupid to realize we are in tha same boat, but fortunately many do!

We need to get the illegal immigration under control before we even begin dealing with the legal kind. In fact, if we don't deport all the illegals, we may need to put a moratorium or at least a very low quota on legal immigration for a good while. We don't need an unassimilated minority.

Continuing the legacy of the Immigration Act of 1965.

The article makes the point that the Senate bills are not just proposing amnesty for millions already here, but vastly increasing immigration.

"The 1965 Immigration Act: Anatomy of a Disaster: When will we value our national interest?" When these politicians have been purged.

The ruling class will soon be gone. Off to the next mark for these grifters. They bought off congress to get free trade though so they could move their factories oversees and yet maintain their market here. And who's going to pay for all of the accumulated debt- what's left of the middle class.

This is exactly why democracies have short histories. Poor vote to take wealth away from rich. Rich move on. Nobody is left to keep the economy afloat. Economy fails. End of story.

Patriot's Day commemorates the Battle of Lexington and Concord in Massachusetts. The Revolutionary War began there on April 19, 1775.

Vote to stop illegal immigration by turning on your car headlights all day on April 19th.

yes its just the opposite to what the American people, of all races want. The nerve of these lawmakers, not only are they proposing an increase, but they word it is such way way that it makes it sound like they are going to do something to take control of the border.

Like saying, attention shoppers, store will be closing in 10 minutes, with the blue light special flashing, even the department stores are not that dumb!

American citizenship is a brotherhood of schmuckdom. We would be better off as Mexican citizens.

What an outrage! Is this "because Americans don't want to work?" This is the lamest of lame excuses for hiring illegal aliens at slave wages. It is all about economics and we all know what side GWB represents and it isn't the union man.

I agree with you about democracies not lasting, the poor voting to take away the wealth of the rich. Or in this case new arrivals voting to take away the wealth of people established here.

If it wasn't for democracy, I think adding many millions would be a great thing. Adding all of their labor and creativity to our commercial nation.

Of course even without immigrants there will always be poor and rich.. and everyone voting for their free lunch. So the democracy comes down anyway, just takes longer.

the Senate is considering legalizing the nation's 11 million-plus illegal immigrants and creating a guest worker program to bring in 400,000 more foreigners every year.

That is actually wrong. Along with those 11 million amnesties comes "chain migration". They can bring their families too. I actually believe the number of illegals is closer to 20-30 mil. Take 11-30 mil and multiply that by 3-7 more people for the chain migration. Talk about importing poverty!

Whoever is elected prez. in 2008, can lock up his 8 years by issuing an E.O. which suspends all immigration for 8 years. Be a slam dunk!

The Constitution is dead people. Prepare to learn Arabic or Spanish because our socialists in Congress and in the WH are far too concerned with merging the U.S. with the rest of the planet than they are about this nation's well-being.

'08 Bumper Sticker

"ANYBODY except a RINO or hitlery!"

Sessions and Tancredo '08

http://sessions.senate.gov/pressapp/record.cfm?id=253171&&

“The American people are counting on us to secure our borders and restore the rule of law to our immigration system. The Senate Judiciary Committee today let the American people down by passing out a blanket amnesty bill. We've been down this path several times before, and it proved a failure.
“There was a real opportunity to take the steps necessary to fix our failed immigration enforcement system and while progress was made, we did not get there. The proper approach is to first fix the enforcement system and then to undertake a national discussion about immigration, considering how to justly handle those here illegally and what rules should govern future immigration levels. We also have not effectively dealt with the national security issues.

“I voted against the committee passed legislation because it rewards illegal behavior, will be considered amnesty by the people and will not restore respect for law. Fortunately, the House of Representatives has passed a solid bill, and there will be an opportunity to improve the Senate version in the days to come.”

http://tancredo.house.gov/irc/welcome.htm

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Real Conservatives FINALLY
have a winning ticket in '08

Time for the real conservatives on FR,
be it Republicans, Independents or Democrats
(like Zell Miller and John O'Neill) to band together
and oust the looney left and RINO's

The "Politically Correct RINO's" on FR are the same group
who "swore"
klintoon, hitlery, hanoi kerry, sanbdi ber(bur)glar, al bore, jane beno,
would be prosecuted for
pardongate, chinagate, the bribes in upstate NY in the 2000 NY Senate race, waco, etc, etc,
"when" the "time was right".
