Chicago digs in against immigration bill
The Washington Times ^ | 3-30-06 | UPI

Chicago's City Council has decided to ignore a federal immigration bill now working its way through Congress if it requires city staff to enforce it. In March 1985, then-Mayor Harold Washington signed an executive order forbidding city cooperation in random questioning about a person's citizenship at city buildings and barring review of city files without subpoenas or questioning city job applicants about citizenship. Now, Mayor Richard Daley has taken up the same cause and has issued an executive order, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Thursday. Finance Committee Chairman Edward Burke, the council's resident historian, noted there is a Chicago precedent for defying "draconian federal laws" on human rights issues dating back to 1850 -- one that mandated citizens to report and return runaway slaves to their owners. "I would encourage you to recall the courage and fortitude of our predecessors in refusing to cooperate with extreme and ill-conceived federal law," Burke said.

I hope any criminals arrested for any reason in Chicago claim they were merely refusing to cooperate with ill-conceived federal laws. ACLU will take their cases.

Not surprising. Federal and state governments have ignored immigration law for decades.

On another issue, is it against the Free Republic board rules to post a link from an anti-illegal immigration grassroots organization?

Sound & fury. Once access to the federal teat has been cut off Chicago will sing a different tune and in a hurry.

Daley likes to be called Richard, but he's always seemed more like a Dick to me.

Presently all across the southern United States Illegal immigrants (mostly from Mexico) are marching. They are demanding the rights granted to any citizen of the United States. These rights are fundmental to our system of government and solidified in our laws.

But these people are illegal setting up a dichotomy of selective enforcement. They are asking that the laws that favor them be applied while the laws that don't favor them be ignored. These people want to have access to welfare and social security, but they don't want to go through the legal process of citizenship. They want to send their children to our schools, but they don't think they should have to pay taxes to support those schools. They want to be able to drive and vote, but they don't want to learn english to read any of the documents that go with those things.

Well I believe that the law should either be enforced or changed - including the ones we don't like.

The Feds can cut through this "BS" by merely requiring employers to verify citizenship status. They can fine any employer a $1,000 a day per illegal worker on the pay roll. None of this requires the cooperation of local authorities. Believe me, the ability to tax and fine at the Fed level trumps any nonsense the Mayor Daly's of the world want to promote.

I was about to say the same thing. Once the Feds cut off the Federal highway funds the Municipal Gov't will comply in a hurry.

The feds would do that once and only once, a large employer can complain to his/her senator and get any immigration monitoring to stop. What will happen when a large state loses federal funding?

It'll never happen, that's where our congress critters bread is buttered.

Just once when Alan Colmes or other liberal pundits utter that favorite dimo maxim, "We are a nation of laws!" I'd like to have this or same sex marriage licenses or anything else the left classifies as "civil disobediance"(not "lawbreaking") thrown back in their faces. Whatever they do is always justified.

And in particular: cut off all federal monies to O'Hare Field or the proposed new airport in Peotone.

The airport has been the personal fief of the Daley Family Machine for over 50 years.

Time to make receipt of any Federal funds for the states contingent upon compliance with Federal immigration laws. This crap has got to stop.

especially as there is now precedent - the 8-0 smackdown the SCOTUS handed the Ivy League over military recruiters

DOUG started with this thread U.S. BORDER PATROL: Turn In Illegal Aliens (and employers, followed by this one U.S. BORDER CONTROL Turn in illegal aliens

Go to either thread for more details on what to do. The TOLL FREE number to report ILLEGAL aliens or those employing ILLEGAL aliens to ICE is: 866-347-2423

How it works:

You are not required to provide your identity to ICE. All that is necessary to request an investigation by ICE is mere suspicion of any activity by ILLEGAL aliens.

ICE and the IRS are especially interested in "visiting" those businesses that employ ILLEGALS "off the books" to avoid the payment of payroll taxes.

Latinos Plan Nationwide Worker Strike

I suggest looking around and see if you might spot a suspect. At work, at school, at a job sight, Micky D's, Store etc.

On the day(current plan is May 1) of this march check to see if you can determine if someone took the day off. Confirming grounds for suspicion.

Then MAKE THE CALL
Again the number is
866-347-2423

:) Easy Does It

Of course Daley is doing this, he has to. If not, and all illegals were rounded up and shipped out the city of Chicago would consist of 500,000 blacks and about 6,000 white people.

Okay, I'm exaggerating a tad, but not much. The illegal problem in Chi is so severe that in most of the local school districts illegals are allowed to vote for, and serve on the school council as there aren't enough U.S. citizens. This is a fact and its been going on for about eight to ten years now - with 'Da Mare's' blessing.
