Opponents of France's new youth labour plan are hailing protests that have millions in recent weeks as a huge success.
But not everyone is celebrating.
Spare a thought for the long-suffering businesses located along the march routes.
"They broke two of our windows," says Nathalie Gosselin, owner of the Paris bar Le Reveille Matin.
Her establishment is located near Place d'Italie, where most of the demonstrations originated.
During a recent protest "thugs hit the shop windows on their way up the avenue, and hit the demonstrators on their way down".
Mrs Gosselin, who heads the local shopkeepers' association, says members are fed up with the protests.

This is buried at the end of the article:
Who are they? [the troublemakers] Ask any shopkeeper, and they will tell you that they are the same youths of immigrant origin who rioted across France's impoverished suburbs in November.

They like being unemployed and for good measure to trash the economy. There's no talking sense into these fools.

These idiots will riot about anything. I can't believe France has gone this far down the toilet. France is an embarrassment as a nation.
To: indcons
If they don't have lifetime jobs, they rampage in the streets. French socialism has bred a generation of spoiled, grown-up babies.

'Youths of immigrant origin'...man that's rich.
It's probably just some of those 'moderate muslims' we keep hearing so much about moderately smashing shop windows, moderately torching cars, and moderately torturing Jews to death.
Ain't moderation grand?

What an unbelievable country. It is near impossible to fire anyone. You must give months of warnings, you must give them THREE YEARS severance pay, and you must go to court to prove the firing was justifiable. What a joke.

Have you checked out the demostrations in the US lately?
Don't you have some people there telling you it is their continent and those of European ancestry should leave? That is pretty ludicrous.
The protests in France are idiotic, but one could just as easily say that about the protests in the US.

Riots by "youth of immigrant origin" - coming soon to a city near you (if the Senate's amnesty bill is any indication).

But their parents have done such a wonderful job with the economies in their countries of origin.

The protests in France are idiotic, but one could just as easily say that about the protests in the US. Protesting about being considered a felon and protesting that you can't be fired are two different things. I would take our Mexican immigrants over France citizens and their muslime immigrants any day of the week. Mexicans work and have decent values despite of what a few tokens ones might say.
To: Einigkeit_Recht_Freiheit
Good point. If things don't change, the U.S. will soon have the same type of problem with large groups of unassimilated immigrants as France.
To: rightwingintelligentsia
Perhaps France can save itself. Doubtful. For years it has welcomed people who hate Western civilization.
France used to be a very civilized country. However, as it is more and more infiltrated by fundamentalist savages, it is becoming uncivilized.
Don't gloat, France-haters! The same thing is happening in the USA!

Especially on the mooslimb comparison.
France itself really isn't quite nice. It is the people that are the problem.

Perhaps we can get all of the PC descriptors in one sentence.
'Disenfranchised, misunderstood, deprived, underprivileged, discarded youths of immigrant origin, unaccepted and segregated from an unwelcoming white patriarchal elitist French society, released their justifiable racial anger and social scorn -- despite the tuggings of their peaceful faith -- at a fascist social structure that is determined to both 'keep them down' where the scrape to exist in the filthy, dilapidated government-subsidized ghettos and prevent them from obtaining the means to return to their N African roots -- a N Africa looted and nearly destroyed by decades of despotic French colonial rule.'
There. did I get it all?
