The problem is NOT going to be solved when the Catholic priest goes to wedding receptions, quineaneras, parties, etc. and drinks with everyone else. The problem can NOT be solved. We are going to end up with monumental problems from this culture clash.
To: MeneMeneTekelUpharsin
The solution is clear: reinstate Prohibition.

Mexicans have always had a drinking problem.. We used to live in So. Calif., and every Sunday morning you would see them lined up with their pats and pans for menudo to combat a hangover.

Along with GUEST WORKER status, we need a GUEST DRINKER
status.

No problemo...
as long as they dry-out by age 40,
and if we pass a guest-worker program,
they can still have one of those jobs "Americans don't want to do" --- President of the United States.

Screw the drinking, what about the illegal immigration? Stopping the illegal immigration stops the drinking.

Wow - thanks MMTU. You didn't even wait for a post before you started spewing anti-Catholic drivel.

That's right. It's the Catholic priests who are causing this!!
Deport all Catholic priests immediately.

My favorite part of the massive influx of illegals to my neighborhood is the swerving, long, warm puddles they leave as they urinate while staggering down the sidewalk. It sounds like a brief, soft, cloud burst on a warm spring night...
Doesn't quite smell like that, but you can't have everything can ya?

"HISPANICS' DRINKING A GROWING PROBLEM" I am a "hispanic" immigrant, albeit arriving at a very young age, short of my ninth birthday.
Even then I knew that, among other weaknesses, alcoholism was associated with the culture I had left behind.
It affected me deeply, and transformed my life to the point that recreational drinking offends me. I will drink socially, but even then, reluctantly.
This alcoholism problem among hispanics is neither unusual nor new. As I stated, it is a characteristic of the culture! But, obviously, fortunately not in the genes.

They are just getting the DUI's Americans don't want... I prefer to refer to them as committing the crimes that Americans don't want to commit, like breaking and entering into someone else's country.

Nobody drank more than the Irish when we got here. Even in parts of the city that are no longer Irish, such as Jackson Heights, you'll see an Irish Gin Mill on every other corner. The stop on the way home was part of the culture...we grew out of it.
It is the other cultural disconnects that will cause the problems.

Yeah. In Mexico no one thinks anything of drinking on the streets. We are a bit more uptight about it, hide the beer in a brown paper bag (as if no one knows what's in it).
It's very common for a visitor in a new land to find that things that were frowned upon back home are A-OK there, and to go overboard testing the new limits.
Add that to coming from someplace that has many sorrows to drown, and...
