Corzine on the Verge of Breaking Biggest Campaign Promises
Millennium Radio ^ | Friday, March 17, 2006 | Kevin McArdle

Posted on 03/17/2006 4:27:43 AM PST by Calpernia

While campaigning to get to where he is now, Jon Corzine boldly promised to increase property tax rebate checks for all eligible New Jerseyans. We've been told the Governor is mulling raising the sales tax from 6% to 7% as well expanding the sales tax include items not currently subject to the levy. Corzine is also said to be considering imposing an income tax surcharge and hiking the cigarette tax a whopping 60-cents a pack.

Is the Governor poised to renege on his campaign trail property tax pledge? It is possible. Asked if still intends to fully restore the rebates, Corzine says, "We're still looking at all of the various options that are on the table, I have talked about shared sacrifice in this, I'm not anxious to do that based on how I campaigned." Does that mean the rebates will be a casualty? The Governor says, "We haven't taken anything off the table, we're looking at, in relatively large blocks various elements."

Corzine touches on a few of those 'various elements' explaining, "We have, in the State of New Jersey no sales tax on clothes, no sales tax on groceries." He points out the obvious saying, "Nobody wants taxes, it's not the ideal but, you look at how much you need to raise and how broad is the tax?" The Governor insists, "We're going to do everything we can to try to close our gap with cuts, I don't think the probability is high I'm going to be able to get to that conclusion but, it's not because we're not trying."

The title is almost as humorous as this statement:

"We're going to do everything we can to try to close our gap with cuts, I don't think the probability is high I'm going to be able to get to that conclusion but, it's not because we're not trying."

:P

That's right up there with the statement by His Slickness at the beginning of his reign, that he wanted to cut taxes and he tried and tried and tried but just couldn't do it.

I think i have that right.

The folks I feel for are the folks who voted against him. They're screwed, too. And being from NYS, I can relate to that.

You know not all of us voted for Corzine but we still have to pay the price for our neighbors stupidity. In fact we have to pay the price in place of our neighbors because getting their hands into our wallets was the reason they voted for that thief in the first place.

There are lots of conservatives in NJ but we are less than 50%. So there are something like 8 million of us pulling the wagon, and 9 million riding in it. In the meantime, the NRA won't help us fight 2nd amendment issues here because the anti-gun sentiment is too strong and they need to pick fights they are sure to win. The national Republican party calls us a loss from the get go so they won't commit to helping us either. The teachers union owns the state legislature, and the political machines will only let the most disreputable slime run for governor. And yet, we trundle on, fighting the good fight, and towing the yoke for the kleptocrats.

I'm not saying we need your sympathy but I don't think there is any reason for your scorn either. It's tough enough to take without getting crap from conservatives as well.

Yup. After THREE WEEKS in office. Everyone with half a brain saw this coming in NJ. Not enough people cared, I guess. Plus, the Republican primary was bruising (as usual) and NJ is a very blue state.

I missed all the threads about the voters of New Jersey revolting at the discovery of the rampant voter fraud, too. Obviously, the voters of NJ got what they wanted since there was no real voter outrage. The chickens are now coming home to roost.

I listen to NJ101.5 (Millennium Radio) in the early mornings (between 5 and 6 AM it is only news, weather and traffic and a few PSA's) as I do my work on the treadmill to hear what is going on in NJ. No more than half an hour for this station for me. Every day since December there has been something about how bad the economy in the state is on the news and how Corzine will need to fix it. And every morning I say to myself that sales tax, property taxes (the towns will get shafted from what they get from the state so they need more) and state government payrolls will all be going up soon. I hadn't heard that there was a so-called "budget crisis" under Dick Codey, Jim "my Israeli boyfriend is going to be State Homeland Security Chief" Mcgreasy.

The idiots who voted for Corzine should pay for the consequences. I didn't vote for him nor could I ever see a possibility of voting for him. I predict that NJ if Corzine pushes through a sales tax increase, especially if he starts taxing clothes and shoes, there will be a big exodus of NJer's to Pennsylvania or points south. I have been in NJ since 1991 and figured I would be here another 10-15 years before looking at moving to warmer climes. I think I am going to have to consider that move much sooner if Corzine screws us with all these new taxes.

NOTE TO CORZINE: CUT NJ STATE GOVERNMENT STAFFING AND HANDOUT PROGRAMS. DO NOT INCREASE TAXES!!!!
