Baretta Tidbits

Baretta was an indirect spinoff of Toma (anyone remember Toma?). After Tony Musante left the show, Robert Blake was asked to step in, and the show was revamped into Baretta. Tony Baretta was an unconventional cop, streetwise with a decidedly funky lifestyle. He lived in apartment 2-C of an old run-down hotel called the King Edward, with his pet cockatoo, Fred. The orphaned son of poor Italian immigrants, Baretta was a master of disguise, which ability he used to infilrate gangs. The show had plenty of hard action, as well as comic relief provided by his dude informant friend, Rooster. The show made it into the Top Ten for the 1976/1977 season.

And, of course, many of you have heard about the troubles of one Mr. Blake, I’m sure.

That's the end of the ride for today. Please watch your step on exiting the time machine. Now that I've shown you a few, how about you share something from your memory. Or, if one of these were your favorite show then, share a memory of the best episode for you.

There When You Need It

Read:
Hebrews 9:11-22

The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. —1 John 1:7

Bible In One Year: Deuteronomy 30-31; Mark 15:1-25

cover When I donated blood some time ago, a nurse gave me a card to read while a pint of the vital red fluid was flowing out of my vein. The card showed the percentages of people who have different blood types. Here are some of them:

O-Positive   37.4%
A-Positive   35.7%
A-Negative   6.3%
B-Negative   1.5%

The rarest, AB-Negative, is found in only 1 in 167 people, or 0.6% of the population. Then the card made this eye-catching statement: "The rarest blood type is the one that's not there when you need it."

There is another supply of blood that is one of a kind and always available to those who ask for it. First John 1:7 states, "The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin."

It was the death of Christ—the shedding of His blood— that satisfied the demand of a holy God as payment for our sins (Hebrews 9:12,22). So now, whenever a person cries out in faith to God, repenting of his sin and pleading for forgiveness, his prayer for salvation is answered.

I am deeply grateful that Jesus was willing to die on the cross, giving His blood for me, so that forgiveness was available when I needed it. Aren't you? —Dave Egner

Sufficient is the blood of Christ
To cleanse us from all sin,
But daily we must claim its power
To keep us pure within. —D. De Haan

Jesus takes our sin and gives us His salvation.

An Irishman named Murphy went to his doctor after a long illness. The doctor, after a lengthy examination, sighed and looked Murphy in the eye and said, "I've some bad new for you ... you have cancer and it can't be cured. I'd give you two weeks to a month.

"Murphy shocked and saddened by the news, but of solid character managed to compose himself and walk from the doctor's office into the waiting room. There he saw his son who had been waiting.

Murphy said, "Son, we Irish celebrate when things are good and celebrate when things don't go so well. In this case, things aren't so well.

I have cancer and I've been given a short time to live. Let's head for the pub and have a few pints. After three or four pints the two were feeling a little less somber. There were some laughs and more beers.

They were eventually approached by some of Murphy's old friends who asked what the two were celebrating.

Murphy told them that the Irish celebrate the good and the bad...He went on to tell them that they were drinking to his impending end. He told his friends "I've only got a few weeks to live as I have been diagnosed with AIDS."

The friends gave Murphy their condolences and they had a couple more beers.

After his friends left, Murphy's son leaned over and whispered his confusion..."Dad I thought you said that you were dying from cancer...?

You just told your friends that you were dying from AIDS?" Murphy said, "I am dying from cancer son, I just don't want any of them sleeping with your mother after I'm gone."

Thanks for the thread.Emergency was one of the best shows ever made.
It could be funny and deathly serious at the same time.

It has been quite a while since I have seen any of the shows, but if the starting to fade memory is correct,I think it would be still quite pertinent today.
