A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Welcome Finest Friends. It's March Madness (for all you college basketball fans) so Rusty, FredtheCat and I (gizmo) decided a little doggie (madness) humor was in order. Ever wonder what defines our canine thinking???? Here you go!!! ENJOY! (AND, as alway, this is a show off your pet friendly zone :o) )!!!!

A Doggy Dictionary

LEASH: A strap which attaches to your collar, enabling you to lead your person whereyou want him/her to go.
SOFAS: Are to dogs like napkins are to people. After eating it is polite to run up and down the front of the sofa and wipe your whiskers clean.

DOG BED: any soft, clean surface, such as the white bedspread in the guest room or the newly upholstered couch in the living room.
DROOL: Is what you do when your persons have food and you don't. To do this properly you must sit as close as you can and look sad and let the drool fall to the floor, or better yet, on their laps.

GARBAGE CAN: A container which your neighbors put out once a week to test your ingenuity. You must stand on your hind legs and try to push the lid off with your nose. If you do it right you are rewarded with margarine wrappers to shred, beef bones to consume and moldy crusts of bread.
BICYCLES: Two-wheeled exercise machines, invented for dogs to control body fat. To get maximum aerobic benefit, you must hide behind a bush and dash out, bark loudly and run alongside for a few yards; the person then swerves and falls into the bushes, and you prance away.

SNIFF: A social custom to use when you greet other dogs. Place your nose as close as you can to the other dog's rear end and inhale deeply, repeat several times, or until your person makes you stop. This can also be done to human's crotches.
BICYCLES: Two-wheeled exercise machines, invented for dogs to control body fat. To get maximum aerobic benefit, you must hide behind a bush and dash out, bark loudly and run alongside for a few yards; the person then swerves and falls into the bushes, and you prance away.
DEAFNESS: This is a malady which affects dogs when their person want them in and they want to stay out. Symptoms include staring blankly at the person, then running in the opposite direction, or lying down.

THUNDER: This is a signal that the world is coming to an end. Humans remain amazingly calm during thunderstorms, so it is necessary to warn them of the danger by trembling uncontrollably, panting, rolling your eyes wildly, and following at their heels.
WASTEBASKET: This is a dog toy filled with paper, envelopes, and old candy wrappers. When you get bored, turn over the basket and strew the papers all over the house until your person comes home.

BATH: This is a process by which the humans drench the floor, walls and themselves. You can help by shaking vigorously and frequently.
BUMP: The best way to get your human's attention when they are drinking a fresh cup of coffee or tea.
GOOSE BUMPS: A maneuver to use as a last resort when the Regular Bump doesn't get the attention you require..... especially effective when combined with The Sniff. See above.

LOVE: Is a feeling of intense affection, given freely and without restriction. The best way you can show your love is to wag your tail or pray together. If you're lucky, a human will love you in return.

Gizmo: Gosh...this is a lot of work putting a thread together. Doggie and Kitty licks to "Aunt" Billie, for"creating our "NEW FINEST PET THREAD LOOK""!!!! (new backgrounds/borders :o) ) And, while we're at it, thanks to all our Finest Hostesses, contributors, "regulars" AND lovers of Freeper Pets!!! Okay...Yawn...think I'm ready for a nap but hope you "check in!!!!"

These pictures are neat. I think it would be a little hard to yell at the dog above the definition of dog bed with those sad eyes.

Wish I had a way to send a photo or two of Mocha, a grand lady Dobie in DUTCHESS county. She's a charmer and a deer chaser and a fabulous Kong fetcher and a beauty queen and a patriot and a very good sleeper.

Hiya, sis! This post is just sooooo cute and the illustrations are PERFECT!

I like the definition of "thunder". I guess it is a universal reaction for all dogs to think it is "the end of the world". Poor things. I remember my yellow lab would hop into my lap at the first faint rumble of thunder. I would have a 90 pound dog sitting on me trembling uncontrollably for the duration of the storm.

I am still dealing with this darned sinus headache, so I am going to sign off. I will be back tomorrow.

For The Ladies Of The Canteen

Who Is The Other Kitten?

My Pretty Human does some odd things these days
In her Big Room she practices something called "Ballet"
Wearing long ribbon wrapped slippers and almost without clothes!

Stretching, bending and balancing high up on her toes
Like a long and limber flower, she can keep this up for hours
Until her skin is damp and shiny and she decides she needs a shower

From the shadows in the hall I watched the Pretty One scamper
As she tossed her Leotard into the hamper
And I noticed a silvery ball of fluff not too far from where I was sittin'

With smoke smudged ears, nose, paws and tail
An intruder had gotten in! How could I have failed?!!
Then I stopped to ask myself, "Who is the other kitten?"

My ears tucked back and my fur fluffed out
Padding close slowly, I left no doubt
That I would attack as the other kitten did the same

Arched backs preceded low growl and hisses
This was certainly not the time for any Near~Misses
As we each launched into the air, not playing Games!

Teeth and claws flailed uselessly with a surprising, loud sound
As we both fell and were equally slow to rebound
And the Pretty One stepped into the Room and giggled embarrassedly

It took a few moments to finally sink in
While the Pretty One wrapped a towel around her damp skin
That the other kitten I had fought was actually me!

So, now my friend and I join the Pretty One
Stretching, standing and bending like her, just for fun
It's great training for when I'm alone and can climb a tree!

Totally, totally delightful, smile-inducing thread! You've probably heard this one before:

Question: How many dogs does it take to change a light bulb?

Golden Retriever Answer: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a burned out bulb?
