One: the band would start playing whatever person gave this speech off the stage in about 40 seconds.

Two: why do conservatives keep looking to Hollywood for a validation of their beliefs? Who cares what these people have to say? It's a waste of time and energy to hope that some celebrity will mirror your personal political views. You want that speech to happen? Star in a movie, win an award, and let the band play you off the stage.

Never happen...

Having once been emmersed in the acting profession (Stage) before quitting to go work in the real world I can attest that the vast bulk of actor's are self-absorbed, narcicistic, self-righteous, vain, self-important, boobs. Just a casual listening to an actor will tell you what they are all about. They want "to matter". The irony of their profession is that they dont. They think they do..its why "message" movies get made so much. In my experience the single most unpalatable aspect of acting for actors is that at their core they are entertainers. It drives them nuts. The idea that all they really are is someones means of wasting time...a way for people to amuse themselves drives them absoluetly nuts. Its why they talk so much of "making a difference" and "making movies that count" or "matter" or "have a message" or "change someones life".

George Clooney's rant about being glad to be out of touch because it means they are progressive. Noone seemed to comprehend that it is a business and people dont pay money to be preached to they pay money to be entertained. The best classiest and most tasteful acceptance speech of this past awards show was Reese Witherspoon and even she couldnt get get past the "I'm just trying to matter."

I guess everyone wants to matter in life and there really isnt anything wrong with that. Reese wanted to matter in a pleasant enough way..but people like Clooney want to matter in a sense that they know they dont and resent it. He wants to matter by cramming his ideology down your throats..screw entertainment I want to educate you.

In the end being classy and humble is next to impossible for most of these people (with a few notable exceptions)..they are too absorbed with themselves and making what they do "matter" more than just entertainment to have any serious kind of introspection. They cant really be thankful because most of them dont really feel they deserve it....after all they are just entertainers...and it drives them nuts.

The hallmark of liberalism is ingratitude. Every liberal I have ever known is ungrateful for the sacrifices others have made and for what they have.

It would have been a good speech, but I imagine they would have cut off the speaker's microphone pretty quickly, and Stewart would have made some mean joke about it.
I was outraged as I listened to Clooney's self- righteous acceptance speech. One part which particularly annoyed me was when he talked about the Academy's courage when it presented the first African- American with an Oscar in 1940 when Hattie McDaniel won Best Supporting Actress for 'Gone With the Wind,' while failing to mention that her character in 'Gone With the Wind' was an extremely stereotypical black slave. If I were there, I wouldn't have applauded Clooney: I would have given him the finger.
