Soldier Picture

I received this in an email from a friend and thought others might enjoy it. Here is a soldier stationed in Iraq, stationed in a big sand box. He asked his wife to send him dirt (US. soil), fertilizer and some grass seed SO he can smell the sweet aroma, and feel the grass growing beneath his feet. When the men of the squadron have A mission they are going on they take turns walking through the grass and the American soil to bring them good luck.

Thats an "Offsite link warning" that many sites use these days.

Like Tripod and Angelfire. Which I think contributes to the ruining of the internet which thrives on links, duh.

I hadn't seen that one before.
Thought it might be an attempt at humor.

I wouldn't even mind these prohibitions on offsite links, except that the current approach doesn't really work.

To wit: Poster Joe Googles around for a suitable image, finds one, doesn't really notice where it's from, previews it - and because it's in his cache, his article looks fine to him, so he posts.

Meanwhile, everyone else looking at the posting a)thinks poster Joe is an idiot,or strange, and b)still causes traffic to go to/from the blocking site, in order to request and serve the dummy image.

The protocol should force Poster Joe to see what the actual result of his posting will look like to the masses - if only that occurred, then these little mishaps would no longer happen.

Easy solution: load the picture into your own cache.

With that hair cut, he looks more like a marine than a soldier.

And if I close the window and come back later, the blocking picture is back. Sure, I can change MY settings - but my larger point still stands; the protocol/software should be smarter about showing you the actual end result up front, and then nobody has to solve ANYTHING on their own box...
