Rural Democrats love the Cheney jokes

ITHACA, N.Y. -- Need a laugh line? Use Cheney.

Those speaking to the Democratic Rural Conference gathering in Ithaca on Friday and Saturday regularly drew laughs when they mentioned Vice President Dick Cheney's recent wounding of a friend during a Texas quail hunt.

Even Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton couldn't resist. Firing up the troops Friday night with talk of Democrats taking back the House and Senate in November, the former first lady said, "We can target our passion."

After a strategic pause, she added: "And, lucky for us, we have far better aim than some people in Washington."

On Saturday, DRC member Ken Harper of Putnam County introduced Sean Patrick Maloney, a former aide to President Clinton and a candidate for state attorney general, to the crowd by noting it often wasn't easy for Democrats operating in traditionally Republican areas of the state.

Andrew Cuomo, an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in 2002, easily won a DRC straw poll gauging support for the prospective Democratic state attorney general candidates among conference members.

That's the real joke.

How's this for a Cheney joke: I'd rather go hunting with Dick Cheney than driving with Ted Kennedy.

As opposed to her hubby's aim, which as we all know was ....... spot on.

"We can target our passion." After a strategic pause, she added: "And, lucky for us, we have far better aim than some people in Washington."

So Ted Kennedy aimed the car for the pond to intentionally kill Mary Jo Kopechne ...

That would make him a murderer, as well as former Democrat running for President against the feckless fellow Democrat Jimmy Carter ...

YEah. I'm a rural Republican, I really like Cheney a lot (C'mon, Dick, just set the gun down, please?) no really, I've liked him since Bush41 days. But this is too good not to joke about, especially since his friend is scarcely the worse for wear.
