Ad Watch: Angelides touts opposition to Schwarzenegger (Boxer ad for Angelides)

*ANNOUNCER: California needs a new governor. State Treasurer Phil Angelides. The Democrats' most outspoken opponent of Schwarzenegger's policies. A leader in the fight to fully fund our schools and colleges. Supported by both Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein.

*U.S. SEN. BARBARA BOXER: "Phil has the guts and the values to stand up for what's right. I deeply believe in Phil, and I know he'll make a great governor."

*ANNOUNCER: Phil Angelides for governor. He stood up to Arnold. He'll stand up for you.

*ANALYSIS:

Angelides has the bulk of Democratic Party endorsements in the race - and he is quick to show voters his top two, U.S. Sens. Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer. Both Feinstein and Boxer are enormously popular within their own party.

Angelides has criticized Schwarzenegger on various issues throughout the Republican's tenure in office - and plans to use that history to appeal to the 72 percent of Democrats who gave the governor an unfavorable rating in a February Field Poll.

Don't forget what Angelides stands for

: Angelides calls himself a champion of "progressive values." As state treasurer, he has pushed public pension funds to dump tobacco stocks, invest in urban renewal projects and pressure corporations into cleaning up the environment. A close ally of labor, he also supports abortion rights, gay marriage, gun control and driver's licenses for illegal immigrants.

If he makes it into a general-election race, his call for increasing taxes could pose problems; Schwarzenegger has been steadfast in opposing higher taxes. "

Also don't forget that Arnold VETOED the homosexual marriage bill and drivers licenses for illegals, both of whith Angelides WILL sign, if he becomes governor. Also don't forget the taxes: Angelides already promised he will raise them, Arnold refused to raise taxes.

Note Angelides is hauling out the Dem "big guns": Boxer and Feinstein.

So whom should conservatives vote for in the November elections, which will be close: Arnold, who has Tom McClintock's support or Angelides, who has Boxer's support?

Remember, a conservative not voting or voting for a third party, instead of Arnold is the same as a vote for Angelides. Just think of the 8 years of Clinton that the "principled conservatives, who voted for Perot" gave us. Can CA survive 8 years of Angelides? I don't think so.

While you make a good argument, Ahnuld is toast. He got in by having lots of Democrats vote for him. They aren't going to do that again.

Calling for conservatives to vote for this RINO isn't going to work either. That's what they did last time, and they got the RINO that many predicted they'd get.

Ahnuld is toast.

California's electorate is indeed in a pickle.

Right now it appears that the Republicans will offer a liberal and the Democrats, a socialist.

There is still some hope however. The filing deadline is March 10. We can only wonder whether the gods will favor on us next week and deliver us from the liberal wilderness.

This state has a very different electorate from Texas. It has always had more Democrats than Republicans but this state didn't vote its party registration levels til the 90s because partisan brand loyalty was weak. That changed as older Democrats, more conservative and more prone to vote the man rather than the party, died or moved out of state. The rest left that constitute today's Democratic electorate were ideological liberals. Even the independents here lean Democratic. And while California has more conservatives than Texas, they're in a decided minority. Its true, the CAGOP can't get no respect.

Unfortunately I do and things are soo bad that conservatives must now battle both the Democrat and the Republican party.

Party branding is so strong in California that the obvious has gotten lost in the shuffle. Ideology is out and partisan bunting is in.

I suspect that it won't be long before party affiliation will be required to be publically displayed before entering the polling place and there will two sides to each room and two sets of powder rooms. Not Gents and Gals but Republican unisex and Democrat unisex. Third party registrants and independents will have to vote at an obsure location behind the city jail and provide their own transporation to and from the polls. Circumstances at the polling place will be so polorized that most will vote absentee.
